Major U.S. sporting goods retailer Academy Sports & Outdoors is the latest P.C. Company to roll over to the anti-gunners. The store has instructed all of their locations to immediately remove modern sporting rifles from displays and advertising, as part of the latest round of knee-jerk reactions to the terror attack in Orlando.
Employees have been asked by Academy’s corporate office to not only remove rifles based on the AR-15 platform from displays, but according to store associates even BB Guns, Airsoft guns, and anything that looks like the AR-15 are being removed from the store’s shelves.
The move comes as the Obama administration threatens to use the Department of Homeland Security to go after firearms.
In a memo sent to stores around the country, the corporate office told store associates to take the following immediate actions:
- Remove all Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) from your displays.
- Remove all MSR accessories.
- Remove any product that resembles MSRs including Airsoft & air guns.
The Memo was obtained by the guys over at The Firearms Blog:
According to store associates, who were on a conference call earlier this week, the corporate office has also outlined a new policy of tracking all sales of MSR ammo of more than 10 boxes. Store associates are claiming they are being directed to “report the transaction”.
Similar actions were taken by a number of so-called gun friendly stores after the Sandy Hook Shooting. After that massacre, Dicks Sporting Goods, Walmart, and even Cheaper than Dirt (one of the largest internet firearms retailers) all removed MSRs & firearms from their stores.
In August of 2015, Walmart joined Michal Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group to announce an agreement between Walmart and Bloomberg to put policies in place to keep detailed records, beyond federal requirements, on anyone who purchases a gun at Walmart. They agreed to film and store video surveillance footage of anyone purchasing guns in any of their stores.
Daniel Defense Terminates Agreement with Academy Sports
These Anti-Gun actions are not sitting well with gun owners who have shopped at these stores for years and are now all too familiar with these so-called gun friendly companies and their anti-gun actions. Following Academy’s actions, the firearms manufacturer Daniel Defense terminated their relationship with Academy and sent out the following letter to their distributors.
“As you know we take our partnership with our stocking retailers very seriously. We are committed to serving and supplying them at the highest level and expect our retailers to have that same level of commitment to our brand and our industry. Unfortunately, Academy Sports has made a corporate decision, in the wake of the recent terrorist attack, to remove all MSRs from their website and in-store displays. Academy Sports has communicated that they intend to continue to sell the MSR category of firearms without displaying or advertising them publicly. As a prominent MSR brand, Daniel Defense cannot support decisions that are completely contrary to the values of our company and industry. Therefore, as of today, June 16th, I request that you place Academy Sports on a Do Not Sell list for all Daniel Defense products and terminate any shipments to their stores or distribution centers. It is unfortunate that we have to make this decision, but it is clearly the right thing to do for our brand, our industry and our constitutional right. Thank you for your support.
Bill Robinson, VP of Sales
Academy’s decision clearly segregates firearms by their appearance, which sends a dangerous message to our politicians that it’s acceptable to do so. We as an industry must stand and fight, together.
Marty Daniel, President and CEO
The good news for gun owners is this idiotic decision is likely to bankrupt the store, as it recently did to their competition over at Sports Authority. Sports Authority Inc. cited its decision to abandon the firearms and hunting market as one of the contributing factors leading to its bankruptcy.
