Your backpack is going to make your arms fall off

Do you get tingling or pain in your fingertips while hiking? The problem just might be your Backpack.

Heavy Backpack

Last month, the American Physiological Society released a study that showed how using a backpack could seriously affect the blood flow to your arms.

The group found that a 26 pound load was sufficient to reduce blood flow in the arm by about 43% and in the finger tips by about 54%. It looks like the problem comes from the straps compressing the axillary vein. The study failed to give any solutions to the problem, but I would think that using a waist harness might help to cut down the pressure on your shoulders and may ease some of the problem.
