GUN SALES SURGE: Are American Waking Up?
With a never ending barrage of anti-gun rhetoric coming out of Washington D.C., Americans are fighting back with their wallets. A day after President Barack Obama won his reelection, stocks from firearms manufacturers Smith & Wesson and Ruger shot through the roof. And now, Smith & Wesson is reporting that they had a 48% increase in firearms sales and a quarterly profit of $21.2 million dollars.
In a Press Release from Smith & Wesson
“Net sales from continuing operations for the second quarter were a record $136.6 million, up 48.0% from the second quarter last year. The increase was led by continued strong sales across all of the company’s firearm product lines, including…. pistols, modern sporting rifles, and the recently launched Shield™ pistol designed for concealed carry and personal protection. “
Gun Sales Setting All Time Record Highs
It’s not just Smith & Wesson who is seeing a surge in Gun Sales. Across the board gun sales are surging through the roof. In fact, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), this last Black Friday set a new single-day record for point-of-sale background checks by the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The number of people trying to buy a firearm beat last year’s record by over 20 percent.
As we pointed out in the past, these record sale numbers really shouldn’t be that shocking. With the reelection of President Obama and his call in the third debate for a renewed ban on semiautomatic firearms, there is no doubt Americans are fearful of what may be coming.
In my opinion, they have good reason to be fearful. Less than 24 hours after his reelection, President Obama sent word to the U.N., that he would be backing their attempts to reopen the arms treaty talks. The U.N. Small Arms Treaty would effectively place a global ban on the import and export of all small firearms and enact an international gun registry that would require all guns to be registered through the U.N.
Are People are Waking Up?
Whether it’s the reelection of President Obama that’s causing the spike in sales, or the fear of an economic collapse caused by the government’s insatiable appetite for debt, I think people are finally waking up to the fact that our 2nd Amendment is one of the most precious rights we hold. It’s the one right that not only seeks to protect our liberty, but it also guarantees us the right to protect ourselves from the criminals who wish to do us harm.
As Washington politicians scurry to figure out ways to restrict our right to bear arms, Americans are making it known that they will not go along this time. With huge increases in the number of people buying firearms, it becomes harder and harder for these politicians to pass laws that would make them illegal.
