Brenda Hawk, a handicapped woman from Western Ohio, is suffering through brutal cold winter temperatures in a home with no power, after a Ohio power company cut service to her home for refusing their new Smart Meter.

Hawk, who has a pacemaker for her heart, has been fighting the local power company for the last year after they demanded to install a new Smart Meter on her home.  She worried that the new Smart Meter might affect her pacemaker, and refused to let the power company install it on her home after they could not ensure it was safe.

Despite the fact that the new meters radio-frequency waves could affect her pacemaker, and cause severe medical problems, American Electric Power demanded to swap out her old meter for one of the new so-called “Smart Meters”. When Hawk refused the new meter, AEP and the local Sheriff came to her home and cut all power to her property.

During the coldest time of year, with temperatures falling into the teens, Mrs. Hawk is now forced to live in her home with no heat and no way to power her breathing assistance equipment.

Way to protect and serve! This sheriff should be ashamed of himself for allowing something like this to happen to anyone in his jurisdiction.

    • SUSAN says:

      ASHAMED?…You got to be joking.

Come election day, when this Sheriff is up for re-election, REMEMBER to remind voters of what he did to this poor lady….and TRY to educate yourselves on the probably many, many others he/she did this to, as well. This poor woman isn’t alone in her plight…GUARANTEED!

      GET RID OF HIM…
      VOTE HIM OUT OF OFFICE!

Is this the kind of “PUBLIC SERVICE” the people of Ohio want or need?

      • SNIPER says:

Well it is OBAMA land, seems that the local goverment and the D.C. crowd have a lot in commom.

  2. Nativespirit0 says:

They have the right to come and service their meter on your property .They get that right when you signed up for their services .Weather or not you give them easement rights or not .That also includes the lines as far as trees in their lines .So yes you do have a choice you do not have to go with that company .However they should have taken their meter and glassed out the meterbase as well as cut lines at the pole .And yes if you do some checking the smart meter does or can interfere with pacemakers tvs computors n other stuff if you will go look on a smart meter it has a warning that its in compliance with fcc articale 15 under 2 conditions it must rcieve interferrance even if undesirable meaning it affects the above computers pacemakers ect and it must transmit even if undesirable consequences its actually on the meter or should be and is required to be on the meter by law. What you need to do is if you were not behind on your bill take them to ucc court stands for uniform commercial court and file a complaint on them for breaking an agreement/contract as you paid for service they didnt deliver and they will be fined for that also since its their meter they can be charged for rent since you do not have service with them and they left a meter there on your propety .You do not need an attorney to do this .when they are fined you take that judment and go to regular court then sue them for what they were fined for then file discimanation charges as well against them they cant beat it as they already been fined by a judge in another court and its on record .They should also offer a remedy for those who are like you who have problems .

@nativespirit-are you just being an ass? Really? I’m sure she is aware of the legal avenue she needs to take. This is an immediate health problem! That so called sherrif forgot who he is supposed to protect.

    • Mary says:

I’m sure they could have called some social service agency to talk to her or to explain to her or even found out if it is SAFE for her…wow. I am sickened that they could do this in cold weather. Idiots…she just wanted some reassurance she got the ass part of that and not the rest.

  3. Joe says:

It has become clear to me that the government and our own local law enforcement are capable of unspeakable atrocities and God can only help us. It is also clear, that if the media doesn’t cover it, it didn’t happen and they only cover what makes the government look good. We are in very serious trouble as a nation and most American’s have their heads stuck squarely up Obama’s butt.

  4. Joe says:

At the very least, neighbors should have gotten together immediately and purchased a generator for this lady. Where’s the follow up on this story? Where’s the national outrage?

    • SUSAN says:

Unfortunately Joe, it should have never come to this.

Government and Big-Business not only control basically every aspect of our daily lives, but they do it while depriving all citizens of their constitutional rights and civil liberties.

And why does it continue to happen? Because we allow it to happen!

We know the only way to protect our constitutional rights…Jefferson told us how to do this 200 years ago…we just either don’t believe him or are not courageous enough to take his advice.

So what DO we do?…Let’s not forget, we ARE the one thing that not only does our government rely upon but all big-business, as well…WE ARE CONSUMERS!

Let your dollar (for whatever that’s worth today) do the speaking for you.

If it were me, I wouldn’t give the gas company that shut-off this poor ladies service ONE MORE DIME of my money!

If they were my gas service provider, I would change providers TODAY!…If no others providers were in my area (since we all know the monopoly they have going) I would invest in wood-burners or electric to heat my home.

Whatever it would take, if enough people got away from this IMMORAL company that put money and profits before a human-beings life…eventually this company would be forced to either change their IMMORAL practices or you’d force them out of business. (Probably the latter being the best option)

As far as the Sheriff’s Office…if he/she is an ELECTED Official…then it’s easy enough to get rid of the scoundrel that was there that day…VOTE HIM OUT OF OFFICE!

We can all exercise our rights, have our voice heard and write our congressman/woman…yadda, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, blah…but, in the end WE ALL KNOW THAT THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS TO BUSINESSES AND GOVERNMENT IN WHAT’S IN YOUR WALLET…THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR!

USE IT WISELY…It just may save an unfortunate Ohio ladies life!

(P.S…I SURE hope you’re not reading this on your iphone while shopping at a WAL-MART!)

Let’s not even get started on WAL-MART!!!!

  5. sick & tired says:

Talk about bullying! They cannot assure her it will not interfere with a life saving medically necessary device, that if it malfuntions, could kill her. How the hell can they play the “You won’t play our way, so we’ll take our toys and go home”? She has a valid medical concern and I wonder if there is a legal recourse through the fact they, the power company, cannot prove it safe therefore how can they force her to accept use/upgrade to something that could be life threatening? Oh, and a couple comments above, changing companies is possible in deregulated areas. We recently moved from Shelby Co, TN to TX. In Shelby Co Tn (Memphis area) MLGW , Memphis Light, Gas,Water, rules the roost. I never understood in all our years there how it was not a monopoly…..You have no choice in power comapny Here in Central Tx you have a choice of 3-4 different to choose from.

  6. suzy says:

i thought we live in a country that allowed us choices
we should be allowed to do what we feel is right for us
this choice of hers didn’t affect anyone else but her but she suffered consequences
    it is not a law
    let people have choices

  7. jane doe says:

This woman needs to contact Puco ASAP. The electric company is not allowed to disconnect service during severe cold weather. Also this woman should go to her doctors now and get a medical needs statement documenting her need for her medical equipment. Sue the crap out of them for breaking the law!

    • really says:

Sure sue them! Sue them! Sue Them!!!! Then they can pass that loss on to the rest of us by jacking up our rates…Do not agree with them turing the power off, but dont sue them

      • Eric Blair says:

In really’s world you should not do anything to upset the status quo.

Perhaps she should scream expletives towards the power company within her powerless dwelling.

Litigation is the ONLY thing corporations understand. It impacts bottom line, and therefore matters.

Do you really think a monopoly business gives a RATS ASS about you as a consumer? If you do, you are clueless as to the ways of the world.

        • SUSAN says:

And where do you think the costs of litigation gets passed onto, Eric?

It doesn’t impact anyone’s bottom line…when big corporations sue someone or when they have to defend an action against them, it’s all one big tax right-off….that YOU pay for in the end.

          Who’s being naive now?

I must disagree with your analogy… “Do you really think a monopoly business gives a RATS ASS about you as a consumer? If you do, you are clueless as to the ways of the world.”…YOU BETTER BELIEVE THEY DO!

But, here’s the thing…they’re not AFRAID of the consumer because they know that no one is going to do a thing.

We ARE the one thing that not only does our government rely upon but all big-business, as well…WE ARE CONSUMERS!

Let your dollar (for whatever that’s worth today) do the speaking for you.

Whatever it would take, (inconvenient or not) if enough people got away from this IMMORAL company that put money and profits before a human-beings life…eventually this company would be forced to either change their IMMORAL practices or you’d force them out of business. (Probably the latter being the best option).

  8. Eric Blair says:

God speed Ms Hawk. You have one hell of a legal case here. I hope that you apply your winnings (which should be substantial) towards solar panels. I can 100% guarantee they will not interfere with your pacemaker.

    • SNIPER says:

Apply winnings for solar home in another state.

  9. Jeanne Meger says:

How can this lady do any checking without power? Duh. The sheriff is caught by the short hairs as he has the authority to enforce. Next time the situation repeats, will he have the moral fiber to handle it correctly? He wronged Ms Hawk and he knows it. He knows the smart meter is wrong now if he was not aware of it before. More and more people are aware of the consequences of this device. There is a story. Don’t know if it is an urban legend. A man had a smart meter at his vacation home. In the middle of a severe cold weather spell, suddenly he had no heat. He called the company to have the problem fixed. He was told he had used up his allotment for heat. He would get no more. What is that? Has anyone heard this story? Does it seem possible to happen in America? Just stunned is the only way to express my feelings. Someone has to help Ms Hawk and her animals. Could that help already be there? I hope so. Where is a follow-up news report? Hello out there? Anyone aware? When the weather clears, someone has to help with a solid solution. Ms Hawk needs advice and a well built solar panel setup-a real good suggestion. Know any Norma Rae type lawyers out there able to take on “one hell of a legal case?” Thanks, Eric. Well said.
    Ms Hawk, you go girl.

  10. kim goodwin says:

People are evil and.i.thought it was against the law to.shut power off in the winter. I would never let anybody put a death meter spy radiation device on my house. Good for her but hope.she is ok. What in the hell is going on in our world

  11. Coalbunny says:

Please disregard my previous message as it seems that Ms. Hawk has indeed received help from the governors office regarding this matter.

  12. Kris says:

This lady does not look ”sick” sorry but its true after watching only a few seconds i could tell, she’s smiling, she looks healthy, her clothings do NOT indicate a VERY cold temperature, and let me tell you something, they are not hiding anything ! its all over the news and the internet, smart meters and new generation meters are bad for your health, there is opt-outs you just have to take the right action as they CAN’T force anubody to use those meters, this lady might chose NOT to pay the bill or something like that, we opt-out, but we still got f***ked by our EP but thats another story !

  13. Richard says:

They sent the sheriff out? I think this is a canard, or at least about more then a stupid smart meter (pun intended)thing. If this woman has a prescription for ‘breathing equipment’, i.e. an oxygen generator, federal law prohibits termination of power for any reason what-so-ever, other than acts of God. I also think decisions by the Courts vis-à-vis common decency can and do defend the handicapped against loss of heat in the dead of winter. I’m not defending smart meters, I had one, and I believe they exist to allow the utilities to charge varying (higher)rates for power. Who the hell can avoid using their appliances at peak times if you work; go to school; get to bed, and lead a normal life?
