LWRC makes fine firearms but… the weapon in this video and the 6.8 round is not a caliber advisable in a Survival or SHTF scenario. Yes the 6.8 is effective, but it is equally important to choose cartridges that are common and easily replenished. Maybe five or ten years from now, IF our military replaces the M4 5.56 with the 6.8, it will become prevelant enough to consider 6.8 as a caliber for your survival carbine.

I agree with the video that the 5.56×45/.223 is not effective, especially penetrating barriers and body armor. Likewise, the 5.56 and .223 are not always interchangeable in the AR, and that can cut possible resupply nearly in half.

I would submit that while generally a pound heavier carbines, the 7.62×51/.308 is the caliber of choice. In this case the 7.62 and .308 are usually interchangeable in the AR-10 format.

LWRC makes a 7.62 battle rifle/carbine called the R.E.P.R. (Rapid Engagement Precision Rifle). It is a fantastic weapon. It is longer than the PDW, at 37.5″ to 40.5″ (16″ or 18″) barrel, but can serve dual purpose in close quarters or sniper scenarios.

7.62/.308 Carbines/Rifles are one of the fastest growing segments in the industry and with good reason. Also check out the Heckler & Koch’s HK762, FN Herstal’s SCAR 17S, and Knights Armament SR-25.

Somewhat off-point, but when deciding on a Pistol, the same argument for the 7.62/.308, could be applied to the .45 caliber over the 9mm. Either way, only these two should be considered for SHTF survival. Resupply, resupply, resupply…
