NRA takes stand against irresponsible gun-rights activists who are endangering other gun owners and setting the stage for further restrictions because of their idiotic antics….
Last years I did an article on these type of people and received some heat from some other gun owners; thankfully, the NRA has come out and pretty much said the same thing that I wrote about last year which is these open carry activists are bad for business!
Over the last year or so, a number of restaurants who used to allow guns have put polices in place banning them, after activists started showing up at their stores looking like a bunch of armed mall ninjas.
Sonic, Chili’s, Chipotle and Starbucks have all asked people not to open carry at their restaurants after activists tried turning their stores into political rally zones, scaring the hell out of people in the process.
The NRA recently released a statement condemning these irresponsible activists saying:
“Recently, demonstrators have been showing up in various public places, including coffee shops and fast food restaurants, openly toting a variety of tactical long guns.”…
“Let’s not mince words, not only is it rare, it’s downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. To those who are not acquainted with the dubious practice of using public displays of firearms as a means to draw attention to oneself or one’s cause, it can be downright scary. It makes folks who might normally be perfectly open-minded about firearms feel uncomfortable and question the motives of pro-gun advocates.”
As I pointed out last time I wrote about these people, I open carry (mostly when I’m hunting, or fishing in areas with mountain lions or coyotes), but I do so for my defense not to prove a political point. As the NRA said in their recent statement on the topic, to which I fully agree, “using guns merely to draw attention to yourself in public not only defies common sense, it shows a lack of consideration and manners.”
My biggest problem with these in your face open carry activists is the fact that so many of them have no common sense when it comes to carrying a firearm. They are not only ignorant, but they are a danger to themselves and everyone around them – they also make all gun owners look bad and put us all in danger of losing our rights.
As an example of what I’m talking about, and the situation that caused the NRA to release a statement condemning these activists, an open carry group in Texas recently caused a lot of problems when they tried to make a point at a number of restaurants in Texas. In the process, they showed how irresponsible they are and how they lack even the most basic of firearms safety training. One of the first rules of gun safety that you learn is NEVER POINT YOUR MUZZLE IN THE DIRECTION OF ANYTHING YOU DON’T INTEND ON SHOOTING!
