Is the Senate trying to Kill Alternative Media? Senate to Define Who is, and Who isn’t a Journalist

Just when you think the Senate might be doing something to protect the 1st Amendment, along comes Senator Diane Feinstein  to remind us just how little our government thinks of our freedom.

Today, a Senate committee passed a bill that was supposed to protect Journalists and bloggers who report news from being forced to testify about their work.  But as with most things our government does, the bill isn’t exactly what it seems.

Once this bill passes, the government will define exactly who is and who isn’t a journalist.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is proposing an amendment that will give this protection as she says to “real reporters” and not some guy with a website.

In my opinion, this is being done to target and destroy any media sources the government doesn’t agree with. In today’s digital era, those “guys with websites” often have more followers and do more to investigate a story than any of the so called “real journalists” do. Today’s “real journalists” are a joke.

Matt Drudge, who has more people receiving their news from his site on a regular day than those who watch Fox News, CNN, & MSNBC combined, weighed in on what the senate is doing through his twitter account.

Under the definition proposed by Senator Feinstein, a student working for a college newspaper would get protection, but Matt Drudge, the owner and operator of the largest news site on the Internet, might not. This means if someone as large as Drudge can be subject to the government’s wrath, what do you think they’ll do to the smaller blogs and news websites?

Benjamin Franklin with Printing PressThis government’s disdain for the American people and our freedoms becomes more apparent with every passing day. If the government can now define who is, and who isn’t a journalist it’s just one step closer to them defining who has 1st amendments rights, and who doesn’t.

Remember those “guys with websites” were once “guys with a printing press”.

Imagine what our country would look like if someone had successfully silenced those rebel journalists and publishers like Benjamin Franklin, who started reporting what was really going on with his printing press.

I’ve seen more real news covered here and on a few other websites that I visit than I ever have from watching cable news. Half of all cable news is government propaganda and spin. The other half is hours and hours of mindless celebrity gossip.

These are the earthquakes that proceed the volconic eruption.

  3. Fred says:

We the people elected these folks to do what we tell them to do. They work for us. This idiotic notion that they get to decide who is and who isn’t anything is not only unconstitutional, it’s clearly a waste of our tax dollars and abuse of their position. Since when does 535 individuals dictate what is to 314 million
people who are actually the 535’s bosses?

    • SNIPER says:

You are correct sir, the people that we have elected have forgotten whom put them there,,I have decided that at our next election that I am voting against anyone that is in now,,,I still however will only vot for a republican or maybe an third party member.

two from Colorado now understand that they work for ‘We the People’
I do hope the sound of 1 million Harleys in DC caused a few to ponder where they get their power

You’re missing the point. This government is totally corrupt. All three branches are corrupt. The balloting process is rigged. Our only option is to opt out. Don’t watch corporate media (propaganda media). If everyone would show their contempt for this government by not participating, at least the world would know that the people don’t agree with this tyrannical police state.

  4. Persister says:

This is most certainly the beginning of increasing pressure on the freedoms of the Internet. If you’re a “legitimate,” corporate media puppet, Journalist, you’ll be permitted to broadcast. If you’re not (that’s anyone else), you’ll be prosecuted as a pirate broadcast that is speaking out against the government.

  5. Jon says:

We have to remove Dianne Feinstein, Harry Reed, Poloshi,Chris Christy,John McCain, Gram.

We need to find good candidates to support against all these traitors run them out of office. see they all become greeters at walmarts and never in government again for the sake of our country.

  6. Trying to regulate alternative media says:

They are trying to regulate theinternet of alternative media. big media like big pharma, anybody’s and anything that can be regulated. Its too late. Too many people are awake to know your a defacto pseudo government.

  7. jtv says:

I believe the Socialist, Communists and Progressives in both parties, in cooperation with a significant population of spineless Congressmen now control the House and the Senate. These people are focused on destroying our Constitution and our Republic and “good people” have done nothing.
