WWIII? Obama Administration & John Kerry Make the case for Bombing Syria
In a press conference reminiscent of the Bush Administrations lead up to the Iraq war, Secretary of State John Kerry went in front of the American Public today to make the Obama Administrations case for going to war with Syria. Just like the Bush administrations claims against Iraq, the Obama administration now claims to have solid intelligence against the Syrian government.
Kerry told reporters, “The primary question is no longer what do we know. It is what are we in the world going to do about it?”
Shockingly, and something that was conveniently left out of the press conference, if the Obama Administration decides to launch an attack on Syria they will be siding the Al Qaeda terrorists who we’ve been fighting for the last decade.
Will the President Violate the Constitution and Declare War without Congressional Approval?
While President Obama was a Presidential candidate he seemed to have a completely different view of the President’s ability to declare War. In 2008 while on the campaign trail, then presidential candidate Obama stated, “The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”
Candidate Obama was very clear, and in my opinion actually right when he declared the President DOES NOT HAVE THE POWER TO AUTHORIZE A MILITARY ATTACK WITHOUT CONGRESS. Despite the fact that he once stated this action would be unconstitutional, he now seems to be ready to unilaterally, and without the approval of congress, authorize an attack on Syria.
Earlier today, the administration insisted that President Obama has both the authority and the determination to make his own decision on a military strike against Syria. Chuck Hagel, the US Secretary of Defense, told reporters that forces are now ready to act on an order from President Barack Obama to strike Syria.
The Start of WWIII?
I hope I’m wrong, but I’m afraid we’ll one day look back and say this was the start of World War 3. Russia and China have already voiced their disapproval, and once the bombing starts Israel will in all likelihood be attacked by Syria and Iran.
Russia remains firmly opposed to any action against Syria, claiming there is no evidence the Syrian regime was responsible for the chemical attack last week. Russia’s deputy prime minister, Dmitry Rogozin, said on Twitter: “The West behaves towards the Islamic world like a monkey with a grenade.”
As American forces make their way to the region, Russia, who is Syria’s biggest arms supplier, is sending warships to the Mediterranean. Should the President decide to violate the Constitution and bomb Syria, I’m afraid he could be opening the door to a war like nothing we have ever seen.
