Are we headed for a food shortage?

Currently the Western United States, from California all the way to the heart of Texas, is in the middle of one of the worst droughts in quite some time. If the extreme drought in the Western United States keeps going, our nation’s food supply could be in for some serious trouble. In fact, trouble may already be brewing.

Because of the drought conditions, and an increasing demand for organic food, organic food shortages are being reported all over the country. And to make matters worse, this year the size of the U.S. cattle herd has dropped to a 61 year low.

The guys over at Free Legacy Food sent me an interesting infographic that addresses a number of the problems we’re facing, and highlights how important preparing for food related disasters really is.

  1. Info graphics are a poor way to transfer information. Please write an article that expresses your point, using real numbers to justify your statements and links to relevant sources.
Is it any wonder that our children cannot read?

    • It’s people like you that are the reason our children are so messed up. How about being more useful to the world and find a way to help instead of complaining. I for one appreciate what this site is doing and mixing it up everyone in awhile like this keeps things interesting. I actually think the graphic is pretty cool and it was a great way of highlighting the key points.

  2. I see nothing wrong with the article. I see the point: a food shortage. I got a similar note from a vendor I buy freeze dried foods from. The problems, the real problems, are …US consumers realizing its a problem ….and making some preparations to deal with it.

  3. I really enjoyed the article and the graphics! great way to summarize it all in an easy to read and understand graph!!
    Keep up the great work!!

  4. looks like I’ll be eating those 6 yr old beef enchilada MREs after all. that will truly signal the beginning of the end.

  5. Any way that an important issue is explained is OK with me.

Food availability is one domino of many. The demise of the dollar is another. Put them together…. what do you have? Massively expensive food if you can even find some. Ignore it if you want…. I’m not!

  6. Well ether way rather you liked the article or not did you understand what is was trying to tell you the US is heading for some super hard times and its best to be ready when a food company says be prepared than I think its a good idea to be ready

  7. You forgot to touch on one very important topic, and that is genetically modified foods, and what they are doing to the natural selection, as well as our health. I wrote a report on this in college, and the info I found is down right disturbing. If the owners of this website wants to read, or even post this report for others to read just email me and I would be glad to forward it to you.
