On the heels of the armed standoff in Nevada, the BLM is at it again; but this time, the State of Texas has its citizen’s backs.
Last week we covered the story of some ranchers in Texas who were in danger of losing their land after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) yet again tried to claim private land for the federal government. But this time the feds may have bit off more than they can chew, because the 90,000 acres they tried to steal are not going to be so easy to take.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says Texas is not going to roll over, and intends to support the ranchers within their borders. Texas Lt. Governor David Dewhurst said that the feds plan to steal Texas land was “outrageous” and “made [his] blood boil.”
“The federal government’s history of arrogant overreach is approaching a new low with word the Bureau of Land Management is threatening to confiscate up to 90,000 acres of Texas land without compensation,” Dewhurst said. “This is a federal land-grab, pure and simple and the BLM has done it before.”
The Texas Attorney General’s Office sent a letter to BLM Director Neil Kornze on April 22 demanding answers to why the federal government was attempting to steal the 90,000 acres of Texas land, and in the process redraw the state’s borders.
In part of the letter Abbott writes:
“I am deeply troubled by reports from BLM field hearings that the federal government may claim – for the first time – that 90,000 acres of territory along the Red River now belong to the federal government.”…“Private land owners in Texas have owned, maintained, and cultivated this land for generation.”
“As Attorney General of Texas, I am deeply concerned about the notion that the BLM believes the federal government has the authority to swoop in and take land that has been owned and cultivated by Texas landowners for generations.”
BLM justifies actions by yet again using the “environment” and so-called “endangered species” to grab more land for the Feds.
In a document that outlines some of their plans for this land, the BLM states “The Red River is a popular recreation area for Oklahomans and Texans alike,” … “Portions of these lands are managed by the BLM and also have values as critical habitat for threatened and endangered species.”
In my opinion, this excuse is complete bullshit. The BLM is no friend to the environment, and to use the environment as an excuse for the federal government to steal a State’s land is beyond insulting – not to mention a violation of the Constitution. I’ve witnessed what the BLM and the federal government have done to these so-called “federal lands” and in many cases they’ve done far more harm to the environment than they have good.
What isn’t ever talked about, when it comes to the billions of acres of land the federal government has claimed for itself, is the fact that it’s “we the people” who own the land and in most cases it’s “we the people” who take care of it. In fact, as I pointed out yesterday in an article on my other site, if it wasn’t for the people who work, hunt, and fish on these so-called “federal lands,” we wouldn’t have much of an environment left to enjoy. For every dollar these phony environmentalists spend in “defense of the environment”, we spend nine!
It’s our tax dollars, hunting and fishing license fees, and tag fees that pay for these lands. The Federal Government needs to remember who the real environmentalists are and stop pretending they care about this land for environmental reasons.
There are only three reasons the feds are after this land: POWER, CONTROL & MONEY.
