California Passes Sweeping Gun Control: $50 Ammo Permit Fee, No Detachable Magazines or Mags over 10 rounds

The State of California has once again gone off the deep end, and has approved a whole range of new gun control bills that will make it even harder on law abiding citizens to own a gun in California.

Firing Self-defense HandgunThe California Senate approved a package of bills this week that goes directly after law-abiding gun owners. The bills make the state’s already draconian gun laws even more ridiculous, by outlawing detachable and large-capacity magazines (which they define as anything over 10 rounds), tracking anyone who buys ammunition and reporting orders over 3,000 rounds, imposing large fees for those who do buy ammo, and expanding the category of offenders prohibited from owning guns for 10 years.

One of the most controversial bills will require the State’s residents to submit personal information and a $50 fee anytime they want to purchase ammunition. The State will then determine whether the buyer will be allowed to purchase the ammunition, which means  depending on how the background checks come back, the same day purchase of ammunition in California may be a thing of the past.

The California Senate also OK’d a bill that will outlaw the sale, purchase and manufacture of semiautomatic rifles that can accommodate detachable magazines. It also requires that anyone who currently owns one of these weapons, immediately register it with the State.

Guilty until Proven Innocent

This is nothing more than targeting and criminalizing law-abiding gun owners. In no way do any of these laws make it harder for a criminal to acquire ammunition, since most do so through illegal channels to begin with.

All these bills will do, is send criminals over the California border, ensuring a larger black market of guns and ammunition to stream into California.

Attorney General Approves Mandated Bullet Stamping That Will Effectively Ban All New Guns

Earlier this week, California Attorney General Kamala Harris officially certified a law that will require all new semiautomatic handguns to use technology that stamps identifying information on bullet casings. Since gun manufacturers are not likely to spend money retrofitting their entire production lines, California has effectively banned the sale of all new guns.

Here are the provisions that have been approved by the California State Senate.

  • The state Department of Justice must notify local law enforcement agencies when a person purchases more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition.
  • SB 47 by Sen. Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, bans so-called “bullet buttons” that are used to get around current laws banning detachable magazines.
  • SB 53 by Sen. Kevin de León, D-Los Angeles, to create new state permits that require background checks for buyers of ammunition. Buyers will also have to submit to a $50 permit fee to buy Ammo.
  • An additional 10 percent tax on all ammunition sold in California
  • SB 374 by Steinberg, D-Sacramento, to ban detachable magazines in rifles. (Yep, even a Ruger 10/22 will be considered an illegal assault weapon)
  • SB 396 by Sen. Loni Hancock, D-Berkeley, to prohibit possession of magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
  • SB 567 by Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson, D-Santa Barbara, to change the definition of certain kinds of shotguns to make them assault weapons, thus making them illegal in California.
  • SB 683 by Sen. Marty Block, D-San Diego, to require all gun buyers to take a firearm safety class and earn a safety certificate.
  • SB 755 by Sen. Lois Wolk, D-Davis, to increase the number of crimes – including offenses related to drug addiction,  alcoholism and others – that result in a 10-year ban on being allowed to own a gun.

  1. Cali is getting more stupid. I’m originally from SoCal and that is where my home is at but this sheet is getting out of control. I’m pro gun and currently residing in Denver due to work. I’ll be looking at TX as an alternative but will only come home to visit friends and family. Good bye Little Saigon, I will miss my people but my people will liberate that state once they understand what is going on. Govt can control the American media, CNN, FOX, etc but they cannot control ours. Do anything to our people, and they’ll get what’s coming to them. Mess with one grain of rice and you’ll get the whole patty! LOL

  2. It’s sad that one of the most beautiful states in this country has to be one of the most socialist states. Guess The Constitution is just a recommendation for some people in power.

  3. AngryGook:
If everybody in your beloved homeland of “Little Saigon”, CA follow your lead, whom will be left to fight? You’re just gonna run and expect others to clean up the mess? How very…Californian of you. SW thing goes for everyone else looking to just give up and run.

THIS STUFF IS NOT LAW YET! it can still be vetoed by the ratifying/signing entity, denied as unconstitutional by state courts, or just outright subverted by threatening out of state ammunition purchases which would threaten to close thousands of
Busninesses and destroy this new stream of tax revenue the statebianteying to lump onto your backs. This tax which will be firmly placed on the backs of conservatives and conservative businesses. It’s economic warfare designed to crush liberal opposition by either over taxing people who can afford these rediculus penalties or causing people to just give up on protecting their rights. FIGHT BACK. Write,
Call, picket, demonstrate against, annoy, irritate, interrupt, lobby,
Mail, write to….if liberals are willing to give up wars and Responsabilities (looking at you Hillary!) when things get hard, imagine what happens when tey get PERSONALLY annoyed?

    • I totally understand and support leaving this downward spiraling craphole state. If enough working, taxpayers leave, there won’t be anyone to pay for all the welfare recipients and gov’t funded programs and the state will fail. We have tried speaking with our words and it is now time to speak with our feet and money and get the hell out. That in reality, is the only way to change anything here. Once the money (i.e. taxpayers)is gone, there will be nothing left to keep this state afloat.

  4. cool why sell drugs when we can trafic and sell ammo. they just bred a hole new criminal enterprise…!!!suckers!!!!

  5. doesnt surprise me at all.
the Nimbies have been in most elective offices now in Cali for some time.
This state has become the laughing stock of most Real Americans = law abiding, gun toting, NRA members.
The rest of you are “sheeple” – incapable of
defending yourself, your loved ones or your core beliefs.
You deserve the guvmint you voted for.

      • Debbie-Patriot is right. The libs who vote these morons into office time and time again (hell Dianne Feinstein has been a Senator for more than half my life) deserve what they get with these laws and legislation. Those of us who vote conservative are simply outvoted. Once we all move out, the libs can have their state full of those unwilling to work for or defend their families. Let’s see how that goes.

  6. I think this is great…if we can’t get background checks nationally then the state can do what it pleases.

    • How is this smart? Why should all the guns in my home for the protection of my family (law abiding citizens mind you) now suddenly be illegal? Why should we have to pay $50 just to be able to buy ammo to go shooting at the range or for protection? This makes no sense. With the average police response up to an hour in our neighborhood (a nice neighborhood that happens to be just outside the city limits) what the hell are we supposed to do in case of a break in? Just lay down and die? Or pretend to vomit or piss ourselves like we have been advised by liberals? Or how about taking our shotgun outside on our patio and firing into the air like our VP advised (which is highly illegal and would land us in jail)? These new laws do nothing to prevent crime. They just leave families like mine (law abiding tax payers) vulnerable. Total BS. Good thing we are moving to a more gun friendly state next summer.

      • Your guns will not be illegal. The reason these laws are necessary is that the gun community is not willing to stand up and self-regulate. We have relied on that for decades, and it has been an epic failure. You had your chance. 87 Americans dead from gunshots every single day is unacceptable. These laws will help reduce that number, and the cost to you will be nothing more than inconvenience. Don’t think gun makers will want to make guns with microstamping technology? You highly underestimate their desire for profit. And their ingenuity. They will do it, with barely a hiccup. The nature of any law is that it imposes limits on the law-abiding in order to catch the law-breakers. Name one law that doesn’t “punish” law-abiding citizens.

        • Um, how is it that my guns and those like the ones we own will not be illegal? Every one of ours is on their list of now illegal “assault weapons” or holds a detachable magazine that itself holds “too many rounds”. None of these laws will prevent any murders. NONE. The microstamping technology will not prevent any crime. The thing with the “gun community” (a term that makes no sense really) regulating itself is that the thugs out there committing the large majority of the crimes and those 87 gun murders daily are not part of our “community”. How can we regulate something that has nothing to do with our community? They steal their weapons or buy them illegally from some other POS who stole it and nothing in these laws will prevent that from happening. I should be able to own whatever type of gun I please. Plain and simple and the same goes for any other law abiding citizen who wants to own a gun. I sure as hell don’t want the gov’t (Fed or State) to know what I have in my house so they can come confiscate them when they see fit. Yep, I am one of those crazies who sees the tyranny in the current administration and the likelihood of tyranny in future Democrat/Socialist administrations. I would much rather myself and my family have the risk of danger but have liberty than have “safety” but no freedom. A free society cannot have both.

    • Yea, more gun laws for the criminals to follow. They have followed all the other gun laws sooo well, Cali. has decided to make more. Hey Douggie, hows that working for you?! There should be NO gun crimes in Cali. in the near future and all the un-documented workers will become documented workers so they can support your state. By the way, hows that working for you again? “If ur gonna be dumb, u better be tough”
BAZINGA!!!!! All Hail to Cuntessa Frankinstien!

  7. California’s gun control is now a whole lot more strict than we have in Canada. Gun control is always bad news, I hate seeing it spread like this.

  8. Don’t move here to Arizona. We’re just fine. Fight these fucktard state senators and demand action or pretty soon California is going to look like New York City in the movie Escape From New York lol

  9. It’s funny that the Californians are looking to leave. We (pro gun californians) should be all gathering to do something about the absurd BS that’s taking place in our state.

    • There are plenty of reasons besides the absurd gun laws here to leave this state. Taxes, education, illegal immigration, lack of jobs, regulations everywhere you look, the list goes on and on. We are on our way out next year and can’t wait. The reasons to stay are so few (family and friends and Disneyland are the only reasons I can come up with) and they aren’t enough to keep my 4 children in this hell hole.

  10. Well done California….And now when your violent crime and gun homicide rates soar skywards faster than the space shuttle you can only look to yourselves to blame.

  11. I am so sick & tired of ignorant people lumping ALL Californians as having the same beliefs – I have lived in Northern CA most of my life and have NEVER voted for any of these anti-gun liberal idiots. A lot of us are NOT getting what we deserve, no matter how we vote, but can’t afford to just pick up and leave – give us a break!!

  12. I’ve got an idea. Impose a $50 fee every time you want to buy a 6-pack of beer. And of course any packs over 10 rounds(cans) will be banned. Also, any beer not rated “light” are reclassified as hard liquor, all of which are illegal. Anyone who receives 2 or more traffic tickets in one year are banned from purchasing any beer for 10 years.

    • im gonna use you as a shield when the war starts so dont even think that you are going to be getting any protection from me or my guns! i hope youre fat

    • Why the name calling? I find it funny how liberals are always the first resort to name calling. We have guns in our home for self defense since our middle class neighborhood happens to be just outside of town with the average police response time of 1+ hrs and break-ins happening every couple months (many times when the owners were home). Please tell me how this makes us “losers”?

    • Well hello alec13. I am one of those crybaby gunhuggers. I cry… when I think of those who have died or have been injured defending MY constitution. I cry… when I think of those in countries that can’t defend themselves because their governments keep them unarmed so they can treat them the way they want to with NO remorse. I cry… when I think of those in countries that depend on their government to protect them, but are slautered, men, women and children. I cry…when I hear a dumpacrap agree to more gun control because they are to ignorant to see what is happening to the most presious constitution in the world. When I don’t cry…when I create that gorgeous pink spray behind the crimminals head that threatens my family and friends or tries to take my weapons. YES, I most certainly am a CRYBABY GUNHUGGER, thank you for pointing that out!

  13. I see it is finally time for me to move out of California. With all the STUPID rules that they have passed concerning the care of Minors and now this ABSOLUTELY ABSURD piece of regulation.
I don’t understand some peoples thinking.
It should be stiffer penalties for people that use a gun in the commission of a crime. NOT REGULATING THE FRIGGIN WEAPONS! I just cannot stand stupidity, especially in the people that are supposed to be the ones looking after our concerns.
