As fear for civil rights mounts amid the fight against COVID-19 grows, the latest draconian attack on your civil liberties in the name of public health comes to you from the shooting capital of the United States, Chicago Illinois.
A visibly agitated Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot delivered a warning to citizens who continue to dare go out in public during this crisis: We will shut it down and you may be arrested.
“Stay at home. Only go out for essentials. You have to readjust your thinking. Be smart,” Lightfoot said. “Not only will our police be deployed to shut them down if you are not abiding by these orders we will be forced to shut down the parks and lakefront. The situation Is deadly serious and we need you take it deadly seriously.”
The Mayor of Chicago said spending long periods of time outdoors, anywhere, is not allowed.
“You cannot go on long bike rides. Playgrounds are shut down. You must abide by the order. Outside, is for a brief respite, not for 5Ks. I can’t emphasize enough that we abide the rules.”
Interim Police Superintendent Charlie Beck threatened residents who go out with others.
“The public health order is not an advisory. It is a mandate. If you violate it you are subject to a fine of $500. If you continue to violate it, you will be subject to arrest,” Beck said.
This is the same city that can barely go 24 hours without a shooting!
Apparently, Chicago solved that pesky gang and shooting problem, I mean how else would they have so many officers available to go after people who are simply trying to breathe in some fresh air?
Welcome to the new world where the same politicians who are releasing prisoners from jail to “stop coronavirus” are now threatening to throw you in it for going outside.
