NRA Slams Open-Carry Demonstrators: Says attention-hungry activists setting stage for further Restrictions

NRA takes stand against irresponsible gun-rights activists who are endangering other gun owners and setting the stage for further restrictions because of their idiotic antics….

Last years I did an article on these type of people and received some heat from some other gun owners; thankfully, the NRA has come out and pretty much said the same thing that I wrote about last year which is these open carry activists are bad for business!

Over the last year or so, a number of restaurants who used to allow guns have put polices in place banning them, after activists started showing up at their stores looking like a bunch of armed mall ninjas.

People Open Carrying who don't know how to responsibly handle a gun

Sonic, Chili’s, Chipotle and Starbucks have all asked people not to open carry at their restaurants after activists tried turning their stores into political rally zones, scaring the hell out of people in the process.

The NRA recently released a statement condemning these irresponsible activists saying:

“Recently, demonstrators have been showing up in various public places, including coffee shops and fast food restaurants, openly toting a variety of tactical long guns.”…

“Let’s not mince words, not only is it rare, it’s downright weird and certainly not a practical way to go normally about your business while being prepared to defend yourself. To those who are not acquainted with the dubious practice of using public displays of firearms as a means to draw attention to oneself or one’s cause, it can be downright scary.  It makes folks who might normally be perfectly open-minded about firearms feel uncomfortable and question the motives of pro-gun advocates.”

As I pointed out last time I wrote about these people, I open carry (mostly when I’m hunting, or fishing in areas with mountain lions or coyotes), but I do so for my defense not to prove a political point. As the NRA said in their recent statement on the topic, to which I fully agree, “using guns merely to draw attention to yourself in public not only defies common sense, it shows a lack of consideration and manners.”

My biggest problem with these in your face open carry activists is the fact that so many of them have no common sense when it comes to carrying a firearm. They are not only ignorant, but they are a danger to themselves and everyone around them – they also make all gun owners look bad and put us all in danger of losing our rights.

As an example of what I’m talking about, and the situation that caused the NRA to release a statement condemning these activists, an open carry group in Texas recently caused a lot of problems when they tried to make a point at a number of restaurants in Texas. In the process, they showed how irresponsible they are and how they lack even the most basic of firearms safety training. One of the first rules of gun safety that you learn is NEVER POINT YOUR MUZZLE IN THE DIRECTION OF ANYTHING YOU DON’T INTEND ON SHOOTING!

Gun Activist
Notice where the idiot on the left has his gun pointing? Personally I would never hunt with, or be near anyone who showed such a lack of respect for the safety of those around them.
Gun activists display lack of safety training
And then we have this winner who seems to thinks it’s ok to have his rifle pointing right in the direction of his child.
Open Carry Activists
I’m all for being able to open carry, but these kind of people who use their guns to draw attention are not only irresponsible, they are the reason we are losing our right to carry. A gun is a self-defense tool not a fashion statement. Unfortunately, we have a generation of idiots who care more about being famous, taking selfies, and attracting attention than they do about protecting anyone.

The woman with the “piece” sticking out of her pants is NOT open carrying (at least by law in Montana). That’s a horrible way to carry, and incredibly dangerous as well. If she were in MT and carried like that, she would be breaking the law (unless she had a CCL).

I agree one hundred percent with what the NRA is saying. I have a CCW permit and carry concealed daily, but these people are just causing us more problems. We have enough trouble with the anti-gunners without people walking around town with pistols on their hips and long guns swinging across their bodies. Why give our enemies more fuel to use against us.

You folks who criticize open carriers dont relize that the practice deters crime because the criminal will not enter a place where he can see people carry. On the other hand conceal carry the robber wont notice until he draws on you and someone then is going to the hospital. Hope its not the law abiding. Remember the storys of CCW people who show there weapon in defense the criminal runs.

I can see both sides of the fence, but stand on the side that says these type people hurt the cause more than they help it.

Thank you for pointing this out. I have been shooting all my life and am a staunch defender of the 2nd amendment but I think these open carry activists are complete morons who should not be holding any kind of gun.

In my experience with these people, none of them actually have any real firearms experience. I’ve seen them shoot and you can tell 99% of them just bought a gun in the last couple of years and have maybe shot it a couple of times. They carry them everywhere, but they have NO CLUE on how to use the gun.

And your point about hunting made me laugh because I guarantee these guys have never been hunting and you are exactly right that it would be the last time I hunted with anyone who handled their gun like this.

As a gun owner and enthusiast, I am all for open carry so long as the person carrying is knowledgeable about safety. I see people all the time in my town carrying a handgun on their hip and I admit that it makes me a little nervous sometimes. Mosly becuase I wonder what would happen if a situation arose (store robbery) that they would feel to have the need to use it. Would they be calm enough to use it properly and safe enough (accurate as well) to use it without collateral damage? Sue I am all for defending one self and others from criminals, but if you do so, be sure you can shoot well enough to harm the criminals and NOT the general public please. These guys pictured want attention looks like. I would never personally carry a rifle into town like these guys. If anything I would prefer a small concealed handgun. However, it is not my duty nor my business to tell someone else what to do with their firearm and I feel it is up to the individual business owner as to wether he/she should allow open carry in the business. Some people welcome it, some do not, but gun owners should respect business owners who do not want open firearms. They are not being mean, but it is hard to run a business where you customers are scared off by AK-47 weilding hillbillies that look like a taliban takeover about to happen.

You guys that do this really need to stop being idiots about OC. Be happy you can and leave it at that. Every snapshot, every stupid protest you carry on in an idiotic manner is one step closer to a gun ban. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if most of these morons are actually actors being paid to discredit the OC and CC movements. Never stop protecting your rights just don’t be dumb about it.

    For goodness sake!

    Wise up, people!

Just because it is your right to “open carry” it doesn’t give you the right to go around scaring folks and giving the media any reason to blather on about how irresponsible it may seem.

I have every right to wear spandex bike shorts, but I know that by doing so I’d be grossing out everyone I met. (they don’t make ’em in “husky” size).

    Just sayin’

This is the largest PROPAGANDA PIECE I’ve ever seen. A few idiots “caught on film” will not over rule the 2nd Amendment. And trolls like these “begging to not invalidate the 2nd” is such a load of horse hockey. Does anyone here remember that the beloved NRA GAVE BIG BUCKS TO OBAMA’S presidential campaign? I think most of these posters are gov-trolls. Wake up readers. Idiots can be found anywhere and the author knows it.

Well maybe instead of bashing these folks about how they exercise their rights and what they believe in, someone could help them out to where they could be an asset to all of us. I mean hell not all of the NRA members are proper weapon handlers and I’m sure a few look like some of these folks in the pics from the article.

I got my first 22 cal. in 3 grade was in the u.s.Army in the 70,s which I like to forget of course, then Ohio peace officer training in the 80,s Our weapons class officer asked us” whose weapon is this”? pointing at his own. We all looked at him and he said “it is the person that gets to it first!” I look at that women with her weapon in her back side and think about that. Also I know a few guy who have CCW permits and they open carry. I may piss some of you off,but think about this. I was a target since I had a weapon on my side. Who is going to be the first person shot? a person with their weapon out in the open or concealed? I am all for the bill of rights etc. but the government has turned against us,do we want all of the people to turn as well? They make up the U.S. Heck most folks don,t know we in the U.S. make up one of the biggest army’s in the world! Sure we have to fight for our rights or we will lose them, but lets use our brains doing it. Thank you

One thing I forgot was I do not trust the N.R.A. anymore they helped with the 1968 gun laws. I do trust the G.O.A. check them out if you have not. God bless us all, we need all the help we can get now!

Why even talk about rights? No one has any “rights”. People have waived them all for “protection”, security, and “benefits” at the sake of their neighbor. Forcing their neighbor to pay for their welfare thereby coveting their neighbors goods (Tenth Commandment). “Free education”, “Free health care”, “unemployment insurance”, “food stamps”, “EBT cards”, and on and on all stolen from your neighbor through forced contributions. In your vanity you look to a “constitution” to deliver you…. a document written by men. It will not save you or your “rights” you think you posses. You look to men and as it is written, cursed be the man that trusteth in man and maketh flesh his arm. Therefore is a curse upon you and you remain in your bondage to pharaoh’s Egypt, Nimrods Babylon, Cain’s city states, and Caesar’s Rome. Do not the people know that taxation is slavery and you have made yourselves servants to Caesar? Do any of you here honestly believe that a “constitution” affords you any “rights” whatsoever? Do you not know that when you transgress the commandments of God as a “nation” you get put under a taskmaster? Who was it of your “great founders” that said “those who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants?”
1Sa 8:18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day.

    There is only one right spoken of in scripture and it is on this wise, to wit;

Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Rev 22:15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Everything else is a duty you owe to your neighbor starting with love your neighbor as yourself. And until you can stop your insatiable appetite for “benefits” and “privileges” stolen from your neighbor through forced contributions you will remain in your bondage and your taskmasters will become more harsh until you repent.

You have attempted to replace God and throne the STATE. A fiction made by the vain imaginations of men, and as Gods rod of correction will surely attempt to drive you back to your Father which is in heaven, if you will hear.

This is a reply for preacher Damon.Have you ever read our U.S. constitution? As you sure are not from the U.S. You said We are forcing our neighbors to pay for our welfare there by coveting our neighbors goods. Did you ever stop to think WE are those neighbors!? Most if not all the people on this site know they are getting screwed by having to pay for others in high taxs, but you make it out that WE here are the ones coveting our neighbors goods! Wake up! Did you know that most of the people that stopped the BLM take over, also lost their homes as they felt fighting for freedom was more important than as you put it(Free health care”, “unemployment insurance”, “food stamps”, “EBT cards)? Yes most of us here believe in God and know the Government does not now and is trying to keep God out of our lives. Also if you know the word as you seen to want us to believe, you would know that God wants us to fight against the evil that has taken over our country and most of the world too. Yes the world is full of sin it always has been and yes I feel we are coming to the end times. Yes people need to get right with God,but you getting up on your soap box telling all of us here that we are all evil with out knowing us, you end up pushing people away from God not to him and yes we do need God in our lives. Also it was William Penn that said “those who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants” Now maybe we will get back to story this was about in the first place.

    @Preacher D;
If you were as well read as you think, you might have noticed that our basic rights (Speech, religion, arms, Etc) are not Given to us by the Constitution; that piece of vellum covered in iron gall ink simply enumerates them, making a statement that these are our ‘Natural Rights’ as a human being.

As for open carry, I think it should be legal everywhere. I am Proud of my guns, I am happy to show them off to friends, I use them wisely, but would never carry them into a WalMart (et al) as a sign of protest as these fools are doing. This is just more harmful than helpful.
