Bank Forecloses on Wrong Home, Steals Property and Refuse to Pay For Missing Property

Big BanksIn what’s actually becoming a pretty common problem, a Ohio woman is claiming that a Bank in her hometown foreclosed on her home. The problem: She doesn’t have a mortgage with that bank, and the home that the bank should have foreclosed on was actually across the street.

In yet another example of how the system seems to be set up in favor of the corporate giants, bankers and government officials of the world, the Ohio woman, Katie Barnett, claims that she has lost all her belongings and the bank and local law enforcement refuse to do anything about it.

Barnett, who had been on vacation for two weeks, came home to find that First National Bank in Wellston foreclosed on her home and changed all the locks. She had to climb through her windows to enter the home, where she then found an empty house.

The bank had taken her items and hauled them away; selling some and giving other items away and then just trashing the rest.

After finding out what happened, she filled charges with the local police. Weeks later she was shocked to find out that the Chief of Police announced they were dropping the case. She then tried to work with the bank to get her belongings back, or at least be reimbursed for what she lost. Shockingly, the bank refused to work with her.

She presented the bank with an $18,000 estimate to replace the losses, but the president of First National Bank refused to pay.

Barnett says,  “He got very firm with me and said, ‘We’re not paying you retail here, that’s just the way it is,’” … “I did not tell them to come in my house and make me an offer. They took my stuff and I want it back.”

It’s not an Isolated Problem:

What I find most disturbing about this story, is the fact that it’s not an isolated problem. In fact, after the financial crisis of 2008 it’s a problem that has become pretty routine. We found case after case after case of banks foreclosing on homes that were either completely paid off, or had a mortgage in good standing at an entirely different bank.

In one example out of Florida, we found a couple who bought a home with cash. They never used a bank, and the home was 100% paid for in full. But that didn’t stop Bank of America from foreclosing on, and then seizing the couple’s property.

Just like Barnett, the couple in Florida was locked out of their home and their property was stolen from their house. Clothing furniture and anything else that was in the house was no gone. The Couple is now suing Bank of America, who has refused to comment on the situation, and has refused to admit to any wrongdoing.

We live in a country that has given entirely too much power to the corporate mafia who runs it. It’s a pretty sad state of affairs when a bank is allowed to essentially steal someones home, and then is allowed to just go on doing business without a single consequence to their criminals actions.

  1. Just an example of governmental “redistricting”. They take these homes, give them to HUD, and move in whoever they feel necessary to bring “diversity” to a community. We’ll all be living in Tijuana in a few short years.

    • Jason, thanks to osama, and his bankers, and corporative friends, along with osama,30 million ILLEGALS, he has allowed to remain in the U.S., and take millions of American citizens jobs, most of us are already living in communities the ILLEGALS have took over. Welcome to osama’s, Tijuana, North America.

      • Bush started the wheels turning. Sr. that is. Then his son really revved things up, remember the patriot act? and now obummer is playing along as expected. They are all puppets, and the left/right paradigm was designed for those whom cannot think for themselves.

  2. Banks should not be put above the law. They basically hired a burglar, broke into her home and robbed her. I agree she should sue the hell out of them and make an example of them. $18000.00 sounds like chump change now,get a good atty and be compensated for your mental anguish, your loss of property, the invasion of your privacy and so many more things Im sure apply to you. I am so sick of the banks treating us like crap and kicking so many people when they are down. The fact that it wasnt even your bank blows my mind. I so agree with Jack, you will certainly get their attention. Make a stand for everyone girl…..Now,go get them!

  3. Actually…
It is the bank and privatization loving GOP that promote this. Remember, it is the GOP that says that these banks and big business are ‘people.’ Where do you really think this money is going… into their rich pockets while they have total disregard for those they have wronged (most of the US citizens themselves).
    Think!!

    • She didn’t say anything about Obama. Not all of us who hate the GOP love Obama. We don’t. The GOP are hellbent on making the rich richer and destroying the middle class in the process. They they are unable to see the evils of mixing religion with politics. They don’t support individual rights (gay rights, abortion/reproductive rights, animal rights). They are just as fiscally irresponsible as the democrats. What is there to like about them except some of them support the Second Amendment?

  4. I really hope she sues the hell out of them, and I hope other people in that situation do to. It’ll scare the banks straight if they realize that people can put up opposition, hopefully.
