Is Icelands Bárdarbunga volcano about to erupt?

Iceland’s Volcanos have wreaked havoc on the earth in the past. In 1783 Iceland’s Laki volcano erupted sending poison gas clouds into the British Isles. The Volcano killed a number of people, and was responsible for changed weather patterns throughout the world which damaged crops across Western Europe.

Geologists are now warning that an increase in earthquakes could suggest that Bárdarbunga, the second largest volcano in Iceland, may soon erupt. If it does, it has the possibility of being far larger than last year’s eruption in which Eyjafjallajökull shut down air traffic across Europe for weeks.

Geologists detected an increase in earthquakes around the volcano and told reporters “There is no doubt that lava there is slowly growing, and the seismicity of the last few days is a sign of it.”

Bárdarbunga is the second largest volcano on Iceland and produced the largest known lava flow in over 10,000 years. The volcano is much larger than Eyjafjallajökull which caused ash clouds to drift across most of Europe last year.

UPDATE:

Not really sure what’s going on with this story. While there seems to be an increase in earthquakes in the area, the geologist that originally made the statements is now saying that he was incorrectly quoted on Icelandic T.V.

The Icelandic language is a very difficult language to translate, so there is a good possibility that he may have been misquoted.
