Over a month after we started reporting on the dangerous fallout coming from Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant, and weeks after the mainstream media moved on from the story, reports are now surfacing on how bad the disaster really is.
For weeks the Media and our government assured the public that the disaster really wasn’t that bad and that American citizens had nothing to be concerned about. Well just like we warned, that really wasn’t the case.
Japan has now raised the crisis level to the highest possible level of 7, making this disaster on par with Chernobyl. But what’s really worrying is that these numbers do not even take into account the massive amounts of radiation that have been spewed into the air and ocean over the last couple of weeks. Japan is saying that the numbers were raised to reflect how bad it was over 3 weeks ago.
Radiation From Japan all over America
Although you probably haven’t heard this on your evening news, the EPA is confirming that Radiation has been found in drinking water and in milk throughout the United States.
Milk Samples from around the country are starting to show levels of iodine-131 that exceed the maximum contaminant level permitted by EPA.
- Cesium-137 was found in milk from Vermont at 1.9 picoCuries per liter.
- Iodine-131 was found in milk samples from Little Rock Arkansas at levels of 8.9 picoCuries per liter well exceeding the EPA Limit of 3 picoCuries. It was collected on March 30.
- Hilo, Hawaii samples showed 24 pCi/L of cesium-134, 19 of cesium-137, and 18 of Iodine-131.
Airborne contamination also continues to be a problem, as high levels of radioactive isotopes have been reported in rain water throughout the country.
In one of the highest levels reported as of yet, The EPA is reporting that Boise, Idaho rainwater contained 390 picocures per liter of iodine-131, 41 of cesium-134 and 36 of cesium-137.
And it’s not just rain water…..
Radiation is also starting to show up in our drinking water. The EPA is reporting that a number of samples taken from across the country have tested positive for radioactive isotopes.
- Philadelphia, PA – Queen Lane Treatment Plant reports 2.2 picoCuries per liter in drinking water samples.
- Chatanooga, TN samples show 1.6 picoCuries per liter in drinking water
- So far 14 cities have reported radioactive isotopes in drinking water samples.
Just like the idiotic government in Japan, that releases numbers three weeks late, our government seems to be heading down the same track, as most of these sample were taken over 2 weeks ago. We really have no way of knowing how much worse the situation may have become, but we do know that we have been bombarded with radiation for over a month now and no one seems to be doing anything about it.
good to see ya post about this again, and posting again period. I know its good to know this information, and the world does need to know, but there needs to be some follow up on what to do. Okay we know this is bad, what can we do about it now after the fact? or the run screaming ” we all gonna die ” lets not have that happen, and I am sure that is what the government is thinking in not releasing the information.
Not sure how much we can really do after the fact, but I think this serves as yet another example why people need to be prepared. Those that prepped and stockpiled food will at least not have to worry about radiation in their food for awhile. This nuclear stuff is really one of those events that is damn hard to prepare for.
our gov’t will not tell us the TRUTH. they have lied to us for years so why would they start telling the truth now? I have kept a chart list of 9 random places in the U.S. that charts radioactive “hits” and shows the numbers every 3 minutes. we starting getting elevated “hits” within 8 days of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. so, the radioactivity in our food, water and air did NOT just START.
For a single contamination event such amounts will be small, but since the small kids can drink the radioactive iodine and cesium-laden milk for years, it is hard to predict what is going to happen to them in a long run.
I advised my relative who has a small kids (1 and 6 years old) to stay away from milk for about a month (to minimize I-131 exposure) and she laughed in my face:)
Although these amounts are 100 times smaller then were detected in Portland back in 1986 after Chernobyl exploded why should we risk our future by ignoring the facts of radiactive contamination (at these levels the actions are very simple; just control the dust and do not eat mushrooms, plus dont let the kids to drink milk without testing first)
HOW DO YOU FILTER RADIOACTIVE WATER?, HOW DOSE ONE PROTECT HIMSELF FROM THE RADATION?,WHAT OTHER SITES CHARTS RADIOACTIVE HITS?
When do you start to actually go to the stored food? Now? next week? At what point can we know that it is too much radiation? The information we have is not reliable. Complicating this is that information regarding the expected duration of bombardment is not clear either. If it ended tomorrow, ok, fine, but if it persisted for say, 6 months or a year? That is not sounding like a good thing.
We just harvested our first dozen or so eggs from ten laying chickens. Are these at risk now? That would be a bummer.
Picked this up from somebody elses post
“Just to put things in perspective . . . UC Berkeley’s Department of Nuclear Engineering has put out a study that compares contamination to a round-trip flight from San Francisco to Washington DC. Based on their study, you would have to drink over 600 gallons of milk to get the equivalent i-131 exposure to a single round-trip flight from SF to DC. For cesium-137 it’s even better! You have to consume nearly 1500 gallons of milk. For the iodine, since it only has an 8 day half-life you’d have to drink the milk pretty fast to get your equivalent dose. The cesium has a 30 year half life, so you’ve got a little longer to drink your contaminated milk (assuming it doesn’t spoil in the meantime). Of course, you could just eliminate one plane flight during the same time period.”
Went and found the original Berkeley study. It’s posted here:http://www.nuc.berkeley.edu/node/2174
Our politicians don’t seem to care. They are more into the new 2012 Presidential election and more taxes to shove down our throats. We don’t matter and if any of us die, oh well. Ca-lateral damage might be the word. I live on the pacific coast and farmers have lost out on orders, fisherman can’t sell their fish and people are losing their jobs, which means they will lose their homes, which means they can’t buy much, so stores will lay off or even close, which means more jobs, houses, it goes on and on. We are in so much trouble here on the coast and not a word from the media, not one word from the government. Honestly!!!! WE ARE SCREWED
atomic bomb, nuclear plants whats the differance the bombs that we dropped on japan is still killing people. now 61 years after the fact. Now we know better, we didn’t have a clue then how many people would die then and we have no clue of how many people will die this time around. it looks like we the world will have to put all of our eggs in one giantic basket and hope that it dosen’t break or melt as the case may be.
I just received 4 bottles of Potassium Iodide- 130mg once a day protects from radiation.. read up on it.. I only have enough to protect my family of 4 for 3 months but I am hoping this will provide enough time to have the radiation disaster to dissipate.. I blew off Y2K, I ignore all media generated warnings.. this one I am preparing for.. the shelf life of the product is 7 years, I cannot imagine us avoiding a nuclear disaster for another 7 years… bridges built with concrete and steel can last 110 years.. how do you figure they calculated the effect of nuclear fission on the holding tanks for nuclear energy.. they didn’t!!!! it’s now 40 years… I say prepare…
whats the time span of all this???… chernobyl is still not safe and wont be in our lifetime
Maybe there are too many homosapiens on the planet consuming to many resources. Perhaps this is a way for them to let it thin it out a bit.
These numbers don’t mean anything to me. You say they are higher than the MCL but you don’t tell us what the MCL is. There are low levels of radiation everywhere. Just because some radiation has been recently detected, doesn’t mean it came from the Japan disaster. Also, what are your information sources? When was this article published? Where did it come from?
We’ve been bombarded with radiation ever since the 1950s with hundreds of nuclear testing done in the U.S. and hundreds elsewhere in the world (Polynesian islands, etc.), hence the rise in cancer rates and deaths from cancer. People are so blind to this (radiation is an invisible enemy – probably worse than Satan), and nothing has been done to stop this growing madness. This love affair with radiation by governments is disgusting because inherent with this comes a blatant disregard for human life.
We also have been bombarded with radiation from the ongoing releases from nuclear power plants. Add Three Mile Island, and Chernobyl, and now Japan… We are living in a swamp of radiation, and it’s only increasing. Japan is adding to the radiation soup in the air.
I think the best thing to do is minimize radiation exposure. If it rains, stay inside, since the radiation piggybacks on the rain. If there is I-131 in the milk, don’t drink it. We use the rice milk and canned milk that was processed before March 11, at least for now. Grow your food inside for awhile. Get a table, some pots, soil and seeds. Plant and water. Simple as that. Start a greenhouse our buy produce from greenhouses. Filter your water with reverse osmosis filtration. Put plants in your home – plants like to soak up carbon, even carbon that is radioactive, and emit oxygen in its place.
Nuclear energy is our enemy, posing as a friend. It’s a hefty price we pay for “clean energy” when our loved ones get cancer down the road because they were breathing, eating, and drinking the ultimate, invisible enemy – radioactivity.
I hope and pray that the people who designed these nuclear systems, whomever they are, experience the “satisfaction” of witnessing cancer in their lives so that they can better understand how it feels to succumb to radiation.
Hi Off Grid,
I’m checking out your site. Thanks for your enthusiasm and efforts. I’m living in California and very aware of Earthquake risks as well as radioactive risks. I’m coming from a scientific background and want to make sure I put my two cents in here:
When stating contamination levels as fact, as you have in this post, it is customary and proper to site your reference… either as a link or siting the article of the paper or periodical it came from so that a person can follow it and verify the citation.
I’m just as concerned as the next guy about our exposure, but I believe we have to be careful not to spread rumors as fact and scare people without giving comparison data.
Thanks,
Jason

Could you please email me a source link for this information? The information I am finding on the EPA website doesn’t jive with your article. Perhaps I am not looking in the right place.
Thank you
someone mentioned that they are taking potassium Iodide and everything is good for them for a few months.. Wrong !P.Iodide does not protect you against radioactive heavy metals.
