Florida Women being Evicted from Home for Living Off the Grid

A woman from Cape Coral, Florida is being forced out of her home after local code enforcement teams found out she was “living off the grid.”

Robin Speronis' Off Grid Home

The women, Robin Speronis, told her story to WFTX-TV who featured her lifestyle on the local news. The day after her story aired, where they talked about her “Off Grid” lifestyle, the City of Cape Coral sent code enforcement officers to post “notice to vacate” signs on her property.

Speronsis, a widow who lives in the home by herself, is now facing eviction because she chooses to live without being hooked into the grid. She told WFTX-TV, “Where is the justice? Why did they choose me,” she asks. “…because I was exercising my First Amendment rights of free speech in discussing living off the grid.”

The GridThis isn’t the first time we’ve featured this type of story. In fact, we’ve covered countless instances where people have been forcibly removed from their land, some even arrested, because they choose to live a more self-reliant lifestyle.

From Eustace Conway, who was forced to stop using his land after 26 years of running a nature school on it, to the heartbreaking story of Andrew Wordes, who took his life after code enforcement teams seized his home, to the Off-Griders in California who were threatened with arrest and forced back on to the grid, these stories are becoming far to common.

Like many of the stories we’ve covered over the last couple of years, I believe this case is just another example of how the government targets people who live a self-sufficient lifestyle. From using local zoning boards to literally zone people into submission, to the federal government’s attempts to redefine the term “waters of the United States”, so they can take control of private property, there seems to be an all-out assault on land ownership and the self-reliant lifestyle.

  1. Step #5 Repeat every so many years.
Though if you can…Go for the people that put up the notices on your neighbors house if at all possible to avoid suspicion being drawn to you and still getting your guerrilla warfare in. :)
If enough people do this, the problem will be solved.

  2. We pay property taxes that go towards our roads, lights, public schools, utility systems, etc. We must live on land that is not owned or connected to the grid in order to truly live off the grid.

  3. The AMISH have lived off grid forever!!! They live in many states in the USA. Many native americans also still live off-grid!!! Both are protected in part by religious belief!! Maybe off-gridders/homesteaders need to research how both are protected UNDER FEDERAL, STATE, COUNTY, AND LOCAL LAWS to live off grid and maybe form their own communities with same beliefs to utilize the same laws.

  4. Owning property , there is mining rights and water rights not just land we walk on. If we are to truly own it we need to own it Al and rally for no property taxes . Only illegal alians foriegners, felony’s sould not own property .

  5. I live in cape coral and see er story pop up.but rarely is her full story told she is a convicted felon realtor. Who stole 2 buyers escrow state convicted her revoked her licence. Her and husband who was terminal then committed fraud buying a high priced water front property ANF never made 1 payment
Knowing it would take about 2 yrs to evict he passed she got tossed out she then lived off grid in trailer
But refused to pay rent evicted again the property in story was a duplex owned by her Corp but since she paid no utility bills electricity and water shut off
And city wanted the sewer bill paid as she still used service .she could have rented the second apt for at time 650 month which would more than keep things the Corp got revoked for non payment the duplex which was a mess got revoked .this was not someone who wanted off grid living but a thief deadbeat who cheated individuales.banks landlords and city only wrong was the dog charge county dog is a criminal bunch I no fan of the city codes but in her case 100% right
Please look further than a news clip I personally look at her duplex and I don’t think homes need to be show places but her property was a slum house
