Total Off Grid Living

One of the things I like to do on this site is highlight examples of people who are living off the grid; so when I found the story of Keith Thompson, I knew I had to share it with our readers. Keith is a good example of someone who decided to take a chance and live his dream of going completely off the grid.

Solar panel outside an off-grid home

With little money, and basically just an idea, Keith started small. He found a small plot of land in the high desert of New Mexico that had no roads, no power lines or water, and no access to any kind of utilities. Although he admits he really didn’t know what he was getting into, his story highlights what someone with a dream can do.

This man from the city, who had no real experience living in a raw land, off-grid environment, was able to build his own home, hand dig a well, create a solar panel system, and achieve his dream of living off the grid.

Check out Keith’s story…..

I wish I could do this. How did you get the money to start up? I.e buy the land, the building equipment, etc?

I love the whole video particularly how he wraps it up!

    “I don’t have monthly Bills”…
“Here in America where use to a high level of material comfort, … I just don’t want to pay for it for the rest of my life !! wooo hoo,

He’d done a great thing, he’s eliminated a mortgage! Electric and water bill.
    For ever !

    Can he do better?

Absolutely, how about implementing a food productions system, like Aquaponics, that gets you fish/shrimp and 100% organic Vegies, free for life,
or raising chickens for meat/ eggs, well, not for life but at least for 3-5 years of eggs.

Thats what my site is about, come have a look.

The videotaping should have been on the living environment, not on the mans face.

I was looking at some comments earlier that had to do with electrical problems during hurricane Sandy from someone that appeared to be a contractor. Another person from possibly Popular Mechanics wanted to contact him. and had his email address that I am trying to get. Is there any way to find that forum again? That was going on I believe back in Nov. to Jan. Your help would be appreciated.
