Steven Callahan’s book Adrift, Seventy-six Days Lost at Sea, documents his dramatic story of survival while lost at sea. The amazing true story is Steven’s account of surviving at sea, with nothing more than an inflatable raft and a few odd supplies.
After the sudden sinking of his sailboat, Callahan is forced onto a leaking raft. He finds himself alone, in the middle of the night, in the vast Atlantic Ocean. What follows is a seventy-six day trial of survival, and a truly amazing story.
I was fascinated reading about how he braved the seas in a leaking raft, which was barely big enough to fit his body. With little food, and even less water, Callahan is forced to figure out how to survive with his few precious supplies. The book is filled with real life examples of how to collect water using solar stills, fix a leaking raft, catch fish at sea, and overcome incredible obstacles.
Steven Callahan’s story of sheer determination is one of the best real-life survival stories since the story of Ernest Shackleton and the Crew of the Endurance. This book is a must read, and will show you how even the impossible can become possible for those that have an iron will to survive.
