GORP Trail Mix

Basic Trail Mix
Equal parts of nuts and dried fruits with additions of chocolate or coconut or salty snacks like pretzels or breakfast cereal.

Example:

• 1 cup salted peanuts
• 1 cup raisins
• 1 cup M&Ms
Mix and portion out, remembering that 1 ounce provides 140 calories. Adjust the proportions to taste.

Tasty HIMIX Recipe

Ingredients:
1 part M & M’s
1 part raw peanuts or assorted nuts
1 part raisins

Directions:
Mix ingredients well in a zipper-lock bag. Note: If you keep this sealed in a zipper-lock bag, it lasts a year or more. Makes 2 pints.

Peak Trail Mix
1 cup Chex’s cereal, rice, corn, wheat or mixed
1 cup M&M;’s
1 cup salted peanuts (or honey dried roasted peanuts)
1 cup raisins

Mix in a Zip lock bag and eat on the trail.

Spicy Mix
Great for adding to other meals as a spice!

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups Rice cereal
2 cups raisin bran cereal
1/4 cup sliced, dried jalapeno peppers
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup cashew halves
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder

Preheat oven to 275°F. Warm the oil in a large skillet over low heat. Brown both cereals in the oil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and spread onto a cookie sheet. Bake for about 20 – 30 minutes. Remove from oven, add remaining ingredients, and mix well. Yield: 6 cups.

Healthy Heartfelt Gorp
Satisfies salt cravings without loading you down with excess sodium.

1 part almonds
1 part corn nuts
1 part dried bananas
1 part other dried fruit
1 part Wheat Chex cereal or Goldfish pretzels

Mix ingredients in a zipper-lock bag.

Common Gorp ingredients include:

Nuts, such as peanuts or cashews
Dried fruits such as cranberries or raisins
Chocolate chips or M&M’s
Breakfast cereals
Seeds, such as sunflower seeds
Granola
Carob chips
Shredded coconut
Pretzels
