Chicken Man kills himself after long fight with Roswell government officials

This is one of those stories that often never makes it to the Front Page of any newspaper or website. It’s a story about Property Rights and Eminent domain. It’s the story of one man who tried to fight back, and sadly it’s the story of a man who lost it all in the process. It’s also a story that can happen to anyone who is reading this article.

Roswell's Chicken Man - Andrew Wordes

The story begins back in 2009 when Andrew Wordes, otherwise known as the Roswell Chicken Man, began his fight to raise chickens on his property. In February 2009, the city of Roswell, GA started to cite Andrew Wordes for raising livestock in his backyard. Wordes, who had started raising chickens on his .97-acre homestead in 2005, decided to fight back. And guess what he won.

But sadly, that’s when the real trouble started:

You see, the story actually has very little to do with chickens. While the city of Roswell, and cities just like it across America, would like people to believe it’s a story about chickens, the real story is about the rights of property owners.

When taking a look at a map that was published back in 2003, as part of Roswell’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan for city improvements, one thing becomes painfully obvious; The city had already planned to take Wordes’ property.

The Map showed that the city had major plans for his property. In fact, his property sat right in the middle of a planned city park. His property was being targeted for “city improvements”, and this fight had nothing to do with chickens. The chickens were really just the catalyst for the city to unlawfully seize his land.

After initially winning his fight in municipal court, the City of Roswell made Wordes life a living hell.

The Harassment Campaign Against Andrew Wordes

On Dec. 14, 2009, the city council approved a new ordinance banning roosters and using lot size to limit how many chickens a resident could keep. Wordes claimed that the harassment started immediately after the meeting when Roswell police ticketed him for no insurance and a number of other moving violations.

  • In September of 2010, Roswell prosecuted Wordes under the new ordinance claiming he had too many birds for his lot size. The judge found him not guilty since he had the chickens before the ordinance became law.
  • In September of 2010, he was convicted of grading sediment on his land without a permit and having inoperable vehicles in his yard.  He was sentenced to community service.
  • In November of 2010, code enforcement served Wordes with a  nuisance citation.
  • After winning twice in court against the city, the county then got involved and actually cited him for “not properly stacking his firewood.”
  • In 2011, the 84-year-old women who held Mr. Wordes’ mortgage was harassed by the city into selling Wordes mortgage for forty cents on the dollar. The city then began the foreclosure process.
  • While in the process of trying to save his home, Andrew Wordes was arrested by Roswell Police on the day that he was to bring paperwork that would’ve delayed his bankruptcy and the foreclosure on his home.
  • Wordes was jailed for violating his probation after the city claimed he only served 122 of the 150 hours of community service that he had been ordered to serve.  He then served 99 days in jail.

After his release, he placed a sign on his property that read “Trespassers will be construed as a bodily threat” and then waited for authorities to arrive and remove him.

explosion at Wordes home

On Monday at 10:45 a.m. Marshalls arrived at the home. After a two-hour standoff, Wordes advised the Marshall that they needed to immediately leave the property.  That’s when the explosion happened. After years of battling for his right to keep his land, Wordes finally had enough.

On a website dedicated to Andrew Wordes, one of his friends wrote:

We all lost a little something today. Andrew was a man of faith, with a strong love for God. He was a staunch Constitutionalist with a passion for our freedoms and liberties.

You pushed Mr. Wordes to this point. You marched around Roswell bashing Andrew, annihilating his character, marking him as crazy and filing lawsuits whenever you could, bankrupting him and denying him rights given to property owners in the United States.

Andrew fought the good fight, not just for himself but for others because he knew it could happen to anyone. And it is. Eminent domain is being abused all over our country, just look it up. Communities are plagued with repeated abuses of the use of eminent domain. It’s tragic and your neighborhood could be next. Andrew fought to his last breath, for himself, for me, for you. In his mind, he went on his terms. Right out of Atlas Shrugged. Andrew is at peace now but it’s not over.

The sad truth about this story is its 100% true.
It’s also not an isolated incident.

From the Federal Government seizing property because of “environmental regulations”, to local municipalities who use code enforcement agents codes to intimidate people into giving up their land, we have a huge problem in this country. Our property rights are being shredded before our eyes, and it’s only a matter of time before this story becomes an everyday occurrence.

The Chicken Man, Andrew Wordes, in his own words from an interview he gave last month on the Rusty Humphries show.

I’d have done the same in his shoes. I’d sooner take my own life than give it up to these sick, sadistic, inhumane pricks.
They want to make examples of us, they want us to think that they would be able to clear the rest of us out with the same tactics if we were to stand up.
Well they didn’t in my opinion, this time he made an example of them. How many of us are going to have to go off before they leave us alone? I don’t know, but what I do know is that it’s a lot fewer than the number of people they’re going to terrorize before they leave us alone.

Honestly, its this kind of crap, along with the shooting of Marine veteran Jose Guerre that has got your average joe on the street talking about revolution and civil war. More people deem the courts highly political and corrupt, and see an armed revolt as LESS of a bad thing than they use to.

Although the govt of Roswell is to blame for not protecting this man’s 4th Amendment rights, I couldn’t find one comment (unless I missed it) that this man killed himself because the United Nation’s Local Agenda 21. Unless and until people wake up to the fact that the UN’s commmunist plan to take over through ‘sustainable development’, which is what Agenda 21 is all about, and that city after city is implementing Local Agenda 21, Agenda 21’s baby for local governments, this will be happening again and again.
In the USSR they used to gave 5 year plans. The commie UN realized 5 years was too short so now they have 20, 30 and 40 year plans.
Wake up people. The UN is has its tentaclea everywhere.

Absolutely right. Some how, some way these evils within cities that no not how they exist by only because the law is written. Not for them to abuse, but only to protect them from being removed from the gene pool. That is why most of all laws are becoming disrespected.
22,000 regulations need to be removed by 22,000,000,000 people. I know about agenda 21, I know about the New World Order. I know better that we the people will unite and over come.

Hey I’m with stupid-trying reading a book. You might actually learn something. Start with “Behind the Green Mask”, a meticulously researched, and incredibly well documented treatise on the UN’s Agenda 21. Now. Neither you or I know whether or not the City of Roswell’s attacks on this citizen were in part influenced by this treaty, that was signed by George Bush and IS being implemented in our country, in spite of your ignorance to the fact, but their MO and techniques used are precisely the type of tactics outlined in this excellent book by Rosa Koire.

Cut the crap and get real this has NOTHING to do with the UN and is all about small town bullies who think they are gods, and the people who let them get away with it because “it ain’t happening to me man”. The bottom line is the whole community was to blame for not stepping up and telling the common council to resign.

On the surface it would seem that it is small town politics doing this. The small town politicians are actually dupes getting the chance to feel powerful. They don’t have any idea that they are being used. The state makes suggestions to these little towns to get their little towns noticed and “on the map” with state and federal funds. To get the funds, they need “x” amount of parks, etc….so through their “city planning” and township meetings these locals play “bigshot”, get to feel important and throw their weight around. They have no idea that they are implementing Agenda 21 planning. If you have not read the list of Agenda 21 objectives, it is readily available at the back of Glenn Becks Agenda 21 book. Once you read that, the hair on your head will stand on end….absolutely chilling when you put 2 and 2 together and see what is going on. You can then verify online through other multiple outlets that the list in Becks book is, in fact, an actual UN/Agenda 21 list agreed upon by democrats and republicans. George HW Bush even participated in the Agenda 21 summit. Wake up people.

Absolutely agree about small towns. I used to ‘run’ our small town but was not liked because I did everything legally and honestly. Small towns are usually run by a bunch of “elected” big heads who think they are God! Our Mayor actually told me “This is like a Monarchy and I am King and you are all peons (sp?). Another time he told me I would be paid more if I were a man. I ended up with a nervous breakdown and the town is now managed by a man like ‘them’.

This happened to a man on Hwy 80 near Selma, Al. The local government persecuted this man in order to take his land. There was a story on the local news about it. In the end, they got the land because it was where people camped out when they marched with Martin Luther King. This country is no longer free and it will never be the same.

I was his girlfriend at the end, we had been discussing our wedding the night before. We were in a box and he just wanted a fair way out he would have walked away at the end if they had been fair to him and offered him money for the land. He was ready to start over with me. Rosewell took this mans life a piece at a time. I watched for over 2 years. We fought with everything we had but they were stronger. This is what happens when a person is not given a choice. The voiceless will find a way to get the last word. I still miss my Andrew and his number is still on my phone.

It’s a good thing, that Andrew doesn’t get lost in all this anger and conspiracy theory making.

The scary thing is that municipal governments have been doing this since around 1994 with the help of ICLEI. This Agenda XXI program has been a stealth insurgency started by George Herbert Walker Bush with his signing of the Rio Accords. Now thanks to an incredible amount of ignorance on the part of elected officials at all levels, all 50 states, 7 territories and for the most part, most counties and municipalities have signed off on the tenets of Agenda XXI. All that remains now is for the Senate to vote a simple majority of those present in the affirmative to ratify the UN Treaty and make it law thus over-riding the US Constitution. It will be the beginning of the end! For what its worth!

If you think the US gov’t will allow the UN or any UN agency to have even the slightest influence on internal American affairs you are crazy. I am a Canadian and even I know that much. The ’eminent domain’ rights in the the US is similar to rights that cities have in Canada but we call it ‘expropriation’. If the city needs land for a roadway or something vital (not a park)it can force you to sell it but it goes through a public process and the landowners usually get about a 25% premium over the properties actual value.

          September 30, 2015 at 8:44 pm

They pay you about 25% over the Property Tax valuation which is usually 30 – 40% below fair market value. I had a town try this with a small piece of my property many years ago.

People we need a voter revolution. If you want freedom and want to take your government out of the hands of the banks, large corporations, and unions you must stop voting for the two parties that are owned by those same people. If you vote for a democrat or republican you are voting for the same people that control both parties. You are being given a false choice. If you want your vote to count you must vote for a third party candidate not controlled by those people.

Unless you live in one of a few states (3 at last count) YOUR vote for president means absolutely nothing.

The Electoral College elects the president, period. In a majority of states, the EC representatives are not required to vote one way or another. Some states have in place a way to address faithless votes, but it deals with the EC representative, NOT with the popular vote.

            August 6, 2013 at 2:58 am

“Obama would like to thank Ron Paul supporters”. What a load of crock. Two elections, 300 million people+, and the absolute best the republican party could field is John “I love a terrorist” McCain, and Mr. 47%. If people were capable of conscious thought rather than controlled by propaganda TV, then Ron Paul would probably be president. Obama became president and still is president because they were able to effectively use the race card. But beyond that…no matter if you wrote in Captain Kangaroo, no vote is “wasted” if you stand up and make your choice, because that is your right. What corrupts the system is when the media tells us that you are wasting a vote by voting with our hearts rather than for who we are told.

Jcalton, nice little “one-liner” jab you put in there!

However, it is interesting how you manage to leave the entire article and current thread untouched and un-remarked in order to move yourself safely into the past for your retort. The original comment was that Obama is “Just as guilty as anyone” That statement doesn”t lay blame on him alone, now does it?

Yes, Obama is to blame for what is happening Right Now. Because the Past can not step forward and change what is happening, only Obama can do that.

Yes, I agree, the electoral college has forced a long string of corrupt presidents who have all done atrocious things. But none of them have committed atrocities in the shear numbers, magnitude and in outright animosity to the USA, that this present Potus has foisted on this country.

Only one politician currently serving has managed to avoid this stench of political perversion. But you may not be aware of Him.

But back to the point: This article is just another example of how our country has been turned inside-out. After reading that established laws will no longer be enforced because they are “unfair” to illegal aliens (WTH?), and then reading this article exemplifying how legal citizens and land owners will no longer be allowed to have the rights to their land; I am convinced that we are past the “slippery slope” stage of bad laws and unfair enforcement, and actively falling into a legal/ethical hell.

But you can keep focusing on the Past, if it helps you to cope.

[thank you judge roberts . ] then it really is time to stop buying any brand name products … look in your pantry , refridge ,garage ,label on your shirt… we are all to blame …. we are allowing the power mongers to keep us battling over trivialities while the balance of public property is [ privitized ] water , desert , soon as we know , our taxes are so high , our childrens debt for schooling is astronomical .. look at housing prices [ nice big fat pricetag ] this liberal bleeding heart and coperate tea bag shit has to go … if you want a nationalistic rebirth it can’t be done through infighting … oh ya our friend [judge sutter ] and riverbank property in conneticut going to pfizer for a parking lot.. [ rush to market pharma rules ] human testing in third world countries. publish results you want and then push for tort reform based on mc donalds coffee….the list does not stop …. we have been and are being duped by the very commentators that stirr our fear of each other…. so many truths are told to those who listen between the hype….. please buy what you neighbor sells even if its not in style , dump the logo’s ,
pre packaged anything . we are all in a world of shit so let it be our choice before we have none… with respect !

sorry mdog its our fault for buying into this lefty , conservitive business , its every one since eisenhower , remember the pres. needs the backing of both houses and then the judges…
so now the fight is told to us to be about our childrens debt to the govt’ .. how about the price of everything since the latest “market correction ” ..if we are too poor of money and time and we are beaten in spirit , we are like as many rats fighting over the last bits of cheese… force the births , take the jobs away so when they grow up nothing ,privatize the military so its about profits when the security forces ciome to town , and oh ya …. undue the buffers between regional shifts by eliminating the “new deal protections ” blame the coal miners for black lung , obese for poor quality food , teachers for reductions in funding , fire fighters for station closings …seeing a pattern here…. we buy the lie …. i’m lovin’ it . get that refreshing feeling , and we have been enslaving the developing world by clearing the forests fencing the lakes and rivers .. you know those dirty savages living in the stone age …giving just enough sugar to keep them working for walmart and gap and tommy hilfiger so we can get cheep style that dosen’t last a year . throw it away and start again….IT IS US…YOU AND ME…. He wants to kick out illegal imigrats, who get paid LESS THEN UNEMPLOYMENT to labour in the fields all day or work in our plastic production plants… Open your eyes, mainstream amaricans! Our society is doomed to end. The corporations rule us. We are heled back by companies like wall-mart. No news agency tells the real truth, about what is truly going on. THe answer is to sue in federal court for constitutional violations of our rights, ending ones life only adds fuel to the “Crazy” fire they are trying to put us all in. By standing up and using the ordinances against them, as a group our voices are louder.

        December 8, 2012 at 10:58 pm

I am replying to this post because it the newest I saw about this issue. I believe that a massive private property grab is underway by our government with what else but the mortgage and forclosures. I was lied to, stolen from, and very nearly killed by a government proxy disguised as private company. The scary part is that I worked for the company that committed this multiple felony forclosure for over 17 years! I can assure you all that having to make the decision to kill police or yourself or just walk away, will ruin your life regardless of which path you take. We MUST find ways to organize and be preparded to force a return to a Constitutionally limited Republic or die trying, just as our founding fathers. I havent a clue how to survive the DHS,ATF,FBI,National, State, County, and City PIGS, using illegal drones, wire, cloud, cell, and Onstar style eaves dropping on us! I keep hearing about shortwave but I don’t see how that either can be secure. So I guess I am asking for suggestions how we like-minded patriots(not “citizens”!) can work the system to achieve peaceful transition to the nation we once were, or is it too late? And Mr. Greywolf, sueing in any court will no longer work to do anything but line the pockets of the scum lawyers who have put us in this trickbag, and I speak from experience. Lawyers need to be the first to hang, hell, I can’t even find one who will talk to me when they learn whom I need to fight. Regards ALM

          July 25, 2013 at 10:32 am

There is no “peaceful transition” so get ready for a real battle or bend over and take it.

        • John
          August 5, 2013 at 7:42 pm

I agree with you about the lawsuits not doing any good except to line the pockets of the greedy money grubbing lawyers. I also know from experience. Unfortunately I also agree with Sherman in that there is not going to be any “peaceful transition” to the nation we once were because first off it is to late for that and secondly the only way we are going to get to a better workable system is to demolish the existing system in its entirety.
Unfortunately that will never happen and we will keep trying to patch together the constitution, which was written for a different time and was not meant to last this long, keeping the laws and twisting them further and further until they are completely unrecognizable. Then we won’t need to have any kind of revolution because what we had before and what we have now will seem like a dream to what we will have then.

I went out of town to my father’s funeral on June the 13-th and while away: my two big turtles were taken from my home by two men who broke in. After fileing charges (police response:”No crime occured” despite that the cops found all my statements true). Substantial emotional and financial losses and health problems resulted as I am told that the healthy animals were taken to and given to the Budapest Zoo. They can receive and keep stolen property? My animals are strongly dependent on our contact as I raised both since they were hatchlings. I always have been their caretaker and I am 66 years old. If I am taken to hospital or nursing home I will get a stray cat for company?

to kill yourself would be to give up, and they win, they still take the land. Did this man really kill himself or did the gov? They own the media to make it into what they want and most fools fall for their lies. All the accusations from the manipulitive gov are false, they had no business prying into the affairs of a living man minding his own business and tending to his land. The gov is responsible once again for loss of life, damage, and plundering. They do it everyday. It is enough already.

I do not believe in suicide, when being harassed, I believe in going down fighting for my right to live as I choose in America. I believe that if Hillary gets elected, and she orders that I be disarmed, my own government will have to kill me before I give up my 2nd amendment right to defend myself. If there are any decent people in Roswell they will take the city government to task for what they have done. Mr. Wordes was a hero. Like so many of us today, we are under constant bombardment by our government. It’s time for all of us to stand up and tell them we are done and we won’t take it any more.

    • lolwut
      March 27, 2012 at 5:21 pm

And what would you have them do to “take the city government to task”? Send emails that aren’t read? Call to yell at an unpaid intern who has been told to answer the phone and insist that the official you’re trying to reach is “in a meeting at the moment”? Plan a potentially illegal protest? Because there’s currently a state bill in the works that would make public protests illegal in Georgia. We have a lot of issues that need addressing, and they can’t all be addressed at once. The ordinary citizens don’t have any sort of authority to “take the city government to task,” but even if we did, right now we’d be using it to take the whole state to task for trying to take away our right to protest at all.

Wait, what? No. You’re comparing apples to oranges in a very offensive way. Kindly reconsider your comparison of eminent domain with international genocide and human experimentation. It would also be a good idea to look up the word “gestapo,” because it refers to a specific type of cop that isn’t present in this particular sequence of events.

      • Larry Gowers
        March 28, 2012 at 8:12 pm

Well, from Merriam-Webster dictionary Gestapo means a police organization “employing underhanded and terrorist methods against persons suspected of disloyalty”. So, lolwut you are blinded as to what is at issue here. If Roswell authorities weren’t employing underhanded and terrorist methods, them I’m Bill Gates and have the bank balance to prove it. I believe the point emlee was trying to make is that our gov’t is using those same tactics today that those monster Nazi’s used back in 1920’s and 1930’s Germany to force their “will” to be done.

        • Bill
          April 1, 2012 at 9:27 am

“GESTAPO” is the acronym in german for Geheim Stats Polizei…in english State Secret Police.
Any “secret police” formation will by it’s nature be above the law as such a name implies.
Anyhow it’s a sad fact that the politicians in GA abused the law criminally by any reasonable assessment to persecute Worde like a dog. I do not have any faith in state or federal agencies ever pursuing justice on their own kind , and Wordes illegal treatment by local gov’t thugs will go unpunished.

It’s biblical in that his neighbors stood by and did nothing – and still do nothing. Reiminds me of a couple of cities that were destroyed along with their citizens in a Bible story. Here though the good man didn’t have his wife become a pillar of salt and the city remains. If I were a believer in the wrath of God and a Roswell resident, I’d be very nervous.

It’s everywhere. I am surprised this gentleman could not sue them for malicious prosecution. If this does not scream that I do not know what does. I sure hope his family is going to bring forth a wrongful death suit, a preponderance of evidence in a civil suit is only a majority and would be pretty easy to prove so I am retty sure Roswell and the county would lose that one. Hurt them the only way that you can, in their wallets since they care about little else. In fact his family should sue them for so much that they can’t afford that stupid park for 40 years.

Better rethink sueing the state or city who do you think will really pay, the city /state can only pay if they take it from the people in one way or another! I believe they should pay but how can that be justice when the burden is on the tax payer! nough said

        August 4, 2013 at 9:44 pm

Yes tax payers pay but how the money has been spent is public record and suits paid for the transgressions of public servants I would think a political issue big enough to cause the needed stink that changes the manner in which city or any public office’s business is conducted.

As someone living in the area, I would like to suggest that ONLY the PEOPLE directly involved in this man’s land seizure be punished. Don’t make the city’s occupants pay for the crimes of corrupt governments and officials by insisting that their city bankrupt itself. Sue the individual city officials, NOT the city. That might even send a stronger message of accountability to the people in the city government, anyway.

I think you are incorrect. His family SHOULD sue the city. It would then be the citizen that would then vote these ruthless people out of office. The citizens of Roswell are responsible for what their leaders do and as such need to take action to made sure this never happens again. If that means bankrupting to city so be it.

so much for “southern hospitality”… too bad there’s no one to take up for this poor victim and make these greedy devils pay for murdering him…

  14. I’d unknowingly encountered Andrew recently in several political discussions on Facebook and though I didn’t know him, what I’d seen of his posts suggested a decent and solid man who shared many of my own interests. It was an unpleasant surprise when I learned of his death on the 26th and as I began reading about his situation, I grew angry just from hearing the very basics.

I could have found myself in similar circumstances to Andrew’s. I became disabled by multiple sclerosis in 2006, and even though it hit me hard, the government denied me several times over almost a year and a half before finally relenting and approving my disability income, causing me to come within 2 weeks of losing my own home, so I understand EXACTLY how it feels to be slowly crushed by the government Machine.

Andrew’s case is a lot more involved than mine, no question. I realized there was skulduggery afoot before finding this page, and reading this fills in many more blanks.

What happened to Andrew is APPALLING. I’m a columnist for the American Daily Herald and began writing my new article discussing this based only on the similarities between our cases, but finding this additional information makes me want to do the very best I can to raise peoples’ awareness of the thuggish and illegal lengths the government of Roswell went to in their scheme to ruin him and steal his property.

A question, if I may, the appellation ‘Chicken Man’ in every single article I’ve seen struck me as the media’s taking an affectionate local nickname for Andrew and cynically using it to defame his character, it’s used without much explanation and looks like it’s placed to distract attention from his real personality and distort readers’ image of him…do you that knew him better think I’m on to something?

Thank you for posting this page, I’m drawing heavily on it in my research and will be watching it for some time. I hope intensely that enough of a stink will be raised by everyone’s efforts that the officials involved are called to account for their rotten behavior at some point.

Rather than trying to send e-mails, which will just be ignored anyway, do what I saw recommended just yesterday: set up your own blog (it’s easier than you think) if you don’t have one, and write about this. You could even link to this article — see the RSS feed button? You can set up a free blog at or Then you can go onto your Facebook page & “Share” your post there. People can come to your blog from there and post their own comments, and they can also Share it on their Facebook pages. Before you know it, this thing will be all over the internet! And it will stay there forever! (Without costing you a cent, of course!)

The City of Roswell is nothing more than a gang of bullies. My friend was ticketed for a traffic violation that was dismissed in court. The Roswell jackboots proceeded to harass him constantly as he drove to and from his job. He changed his route and got a new car to stop the harassment.

Several years ago I had a similar problem with local officials who had a GOD COMPLEX. My solution to their Superior Attitude problem was to teach them about the “Vine that ate the South” aka KUDZU. It is truly amazing what happens when a handfull of KUDZU is tied to an iceball of frozen Miracle Gro plant food and tossed into the shrubery or other vegetation next to those ROYALTY’s homes. That vine will quickly grow and then grow some more until they finally notice that their house is being eaten by the KUDZU. In this case, each and every one of those self-important jerks need to know about this simple trick. I think the proper term is that “Payback is a Bitch” and the KUDZU is really hard to get rid of.

      March 29, 2012 at 10:14 pm

      • StevenKY
        March 31, 2012 at 9:27 pm

CHRIS, I took a bunch of fast food, soft drink cups and cut a 1/2 inch slit on the top edge and took a 3 foot long piece of string, folded it in half and put the folded end in the cup, held in place by the slit. Filled the cup with the powdered Miracle Grow mixed with water and placed the cups in the freezer. When ‘delivered’, a handful of kudzu was tied to the strings and the paper cup was removed leaving me with a nice green iceball with leaves attached. Never failed to grow since the water and food was right there and the string got loose once the ice melted. Reading other comments in this forum it looks like a lot of other folks need to try this trick. If Kudzu can “Eat the South” it can also eat other parts of this formerly great nation and since many folks don’t know what Kudzu looks like it can gain a foothold and GROW LIKE THE DICKENS until it is too late to kill it off. Just my 2 cents worth.

So does the eminent domain law trump the constitution? It says right in the constitution that the govt doesnt have the right to take your land unless they give you a proper payment for exactly what its worth. I thought the constitution was the law of the land & u couldnt go against it. Eminent domain is definately unlawful & needs to be stopped.

    • Regan
      April 2, 2012 at 8:19 am

Technically, yes the Constitution is the “law of the land”. However, our government (local & national) hasn’t been concerned with what’s in that document for years now. They are constantly taking the rights the Constitution guarantees us away – and will eventually take them all away.

I am the – Birdman of long beach – in California. This was a very sad story about a man that just wanted to do right, live in peace and enjoy a happy life and god bless him in heaven. I am a Marine Corp. veteran and this so easily could of been me. I get a small disability penson from the Va. so I needed somewhere to live reasonable so I could affort to continue my bird rescue. A 99 cent store let me put a 2001 chevy Van Conversion in a fenced in area way in the back of the property and rented it to me for 3 years at $250.00 a month through three landlords. I had cages everywhere with pigeons I was doctoring. I took care of everyones property around there keeping that area one of the cleanest areas in the city which should of made the city proud. My pitbull Babygirl and me locked gates accidently left open at the school next to us and there was a apt. building next to my small area and everyone was thrilled to have us there keeping everything nice and being security for there cars parked in the back there. We were a good reflection on the city, the homeless, the veterans, and the disabled and like the chicken man I was filled with pride sacrificing a normal place to live to be able to afford to help god’s creatures. So for 3 years we lived in my van in the fenced in area only doing good. It was a area way in the back out of everyones view. Then while my rent was paid the police and the city came and dragged us out of there and treated us worse than a seriel killer. This was the gratitude we received for making Long Beach look good. The owner of the property John Cabe who owns Cabe Toyato even without my permission had my van towed to his property figuring I would never be in a position to get it back which I was not. And he could sell it and add the money from it to his bank account if you can believe that.On google is some of the stories published on my rescue work under Birdman of long beach and contact information.I survived this horible nightmare and made a name for myself and never gave up on helping my little friends. But what I am getting at is the treatment I received could of made this old Marine lose it and it could of turned into a nightmare for everyone. I wish the Chicken Man had never been pushed to that point but I definitely understand how he was with the treatment he received. May you rest in peace now Chicken Man.

      March 31, 2012 at 9:32 pm

Dan, it sounds like you need a bushel basket full of KUDZU to plant around that Toyota dealership since KUDZU originally came from either China or Japan for erosion control. I think that John Cabe might appreciate the humor of the “Vine that ate the South” eating his Toyota dealership. Just my 2 cents worth.

Shame on the government officials who hide behind the country’s real state laws, wrongfully enforcing them, driving good people like Mr. Wordes to the extreme and taking matters in to his own hands to defend his rights since going to court and winning did him no good!
This country is definitely not the land of the free any more, and please dont blame Obama, this shit has been going on way before he was even born…

Honestly, if I were in his shoes I wouldn’t have just made an explosion, I would have figured out how to make the land 100% toxic for them to even try to use it. Screw eminent domain, it’s my land and I’ve paid for it; if you want to give me pennies for what it’s worth, I’ll make it worth pennies.

    • Bob
      May 25, 2015 at 7:10 pm

Exactly! Make it such a toxic wasteland that it would cost them more to use it than it would to put the park elsewhere. I battled a county and won so they passed an ordinance and came after me again. I was already grandfathered in. They had to pay my lawyer and all costs twice. I moved to another state and had to battle the county there too and won, sost them $20K in legal fees. I live off-grid and nobody will ever dictate to me how I choose to live on my land. I use my second ammendment rights to defend the rest of my rights. The constitution applies on my land, and no bureaucrat at any level has the authority to infringe on that. I devoted the majority of my life to defending this country from all threats, foreign and domestic, and swore an oath to defend the constitution. That oath is binding for life!

The government is a BIG machine run by people. It has no heart; it has no soul. It can be manipulated to suit the agendas of both leftist and conservative movements. The important things to remember about this machine are: (1) Stay out of its way if at all possible – avoid confrontations, (2) If you can’t avoid it, “steer into the skid.” If they tell you you need to move off your land, get them to give you better than “fair market value” for it (or at least what it is worth), (3) Use the courts to your advantage – if something is unfair, you can generally get a judge to over-ride it, (4) Use the media to your advantage. If you can get an overwhelming number of people to object, you may be able to stem, or even reverse the action, (5) NOTHING IS HOPELESS – don’t kill yourself – you can always re-start somewhere else.

I can well relate to this. My dad and grandfather owned 12 cotton warehouses on the Mississippi levy in St Louis. They were both card-carrying, fat-cat (donors) Republicans. Roosevelt was elected in ’32. Darst, a Democrat, defeated the Republican Mayor of St Louis in ’34. The federal government seized my dad’s river-levy properties in 1937 (the year I was born, youngest of 4) in the name of, “Right of Public Domain”. O’Donnell v United States Government, famous Supreme Court case and $2 million later, my dad was awarded $33,000 as an “equitable” settlement. That’s the way it works when the Dems are in control. Take from the producers, and pocket the proceeds in the guise of giving to the poor.

In many cases it involves elder abuse. My mom was a widow. They changed the property code and fined her the next day. She requested and was given time to build a wooden fence around the property. A year later they came, taking pictures of inoperable vehicles, eye sores, and they fined her without giving her a chance or time to comply. She asked the judge for a lenient fine since she was a widow on fixed income. The judge fined her $100. The city manager and city engineer called her begging her to pay for the Attorney fee, $2000 they used in city money to hire a prosecutor. My mom refused of course. The two gentlemen were fired. I am sure glad I made my mom aware of what they were trying to do to her. At first she was overwhelmed, wanted to give up because they were being so nasty and rude to her. At first my mom felt she was ready to sell the Mansion, with 8 bedrooms, three kitchens, three living rooms and diners, six restrooms and a beautiful main living room with a 6′ fireplace. It was at Indian School Lane in Banning CA. Irving Berlin had once lived across the street at the Briar Gate Manor where he wrote White Christmas. And the Wright brother who was the architect designed and help build the house next door. I told her they were harassing her because she was an elderly widow and they want her to sell the property. The house wasn’t for sale but some oddly annoying people kept showing up asking if it was for sale. Without ever seeing inside they would start immediately start criticizing and saying it wasn’t worth anything. My mom kept the house for at least ten more years.

Eminent domain is my area of practice. You should know that the property owner is compensated for the value of the property taken, and damages, if any. Attorney and other costs are covered by the condemning authority. He should have been appropriately compensated unless there were business damage considerations, which is covered by a separate set of laws/rules. Eminent domain is important to everyone for sometimes not so obvious reasons. This piece made no mention of compensation so I would assume that he was realistically compensated. If the government subverted rules of trust then that is a different issue. Hopefully that wasn’t the case.

      May 17, 2013 at 2:10 am

This case had nothing to do with eminent domain but with corrupt officials who had a funny idea as to what they should do. Governance through threats and subversion should never be accepted by anyone, and that is what he was dealing with, corruption, subversion and threats by a government. Tough to fight city hall, with their deep pockets and, I hate to say it, but judges who have a funny sense of their obligation to act. This thing is just so outrageous. Eminent domain may have been the start, but eminent domain was only at the periphery. Corruption is the main issue. Sad

One may wish to be careful with the words used by those sorceress’ and sorcerers called lawyers. Words like “resident”, “livestock”, “citizen”, person, and many others that people THINK they know what they mean but take on an entirely different meaning when defined in their statutes (which many falsely believe is law). One may notice that all their purported rules and regs applies to “residents”. What people do not understand that “residence” is a “benefit” and political choice and has nothing to do with geographical location. Like myself I am no “resident”. However one must be willing to give up all those things that “residents” enjoy. Real liberty is responsibility.

Person: “In law, man and person are not exactly-synonymous terms.” Bouvier’s Law Dictionary, 1856, 1 Bouv. Inst. n. 137

Minimum Contacts: “A doctrine referring to the minimum due process requirement for subjecting a non-resident civil defendant to a court’s personal jurisdiction. The defendant must have sufficient contacts with the forum state.” International Shoe Co. v. State of Washington, 326 US. 310, 66 c.c. 154, 90 L.Ed. 95.

“Allegiance is a duty owing by citizens to their government, of which, so long as they enjoy its benefits, they can not divest themselves.” Military Government and Martial Law, William E. Birkhimer, Major, General Staff, U.S. Army, 1914, page 64).

So unless one is willing to “lose his life so that he may gain it” according to the only true King they will continue to be under bondage to the STATE. No “resident” and no “citizen” =no jurisdiction.

This is tragic, and a textbook case of the state of using overwhelming force to steal property and subvert the constitution.

However, Mr. Wordes always had the opportunity to step aside and escape. This was, ultimately, about an armed robbery, “your property or your life.” And while I sympathize with a robbery victim, I can’t put myself in the shoes of someone who digs in their heels and allows a robber to slaughter them over a piece of property. That’s immoral. God does not want you to kill yourself to make a statement or allow yourself to be killed over property. Over faith–yes, over property–no.

In this country we face a far more insidious problem. People every day are murdered by cops or by the system without any due process, just summarily executed. While I mourn for Wordes, I will not fight for him the way I will stand up and fight for those who are murdered by the state arbitrarily. I pick my fights carefully, meaning who I will stand beside. The real victims in this country are those who are given no due process at all.

I wish that Mr. Wordes friends in his church could have reached him, helped him to simply move out of his 1 acre plot to another town. This could have been a sad parable of the big city encroaching on small town life, without a tragic ending. There is no reason to dig in ones heels against an unstoppable force. You will not win justice with such a sacrifice.

My prayers are with Mr. Wordes, but I wouldn’t have stood with him when the bulldozers showed up. I would have only come by his place the day before to help him pack and tote boxes to his new homestead. Sometimes a fight isn’t worth fighting.

I never seen this world in such a mess as it is now. Ive learned so much about the
Government in the past 2 yrs, then I have in my whole life. To read this story broke my heart, and listening to him he was far from crazy he sounded like a man thatt just wanted to be happy and live in peace. This was a man that believed in his rights. He shouldn’t of died. The united states is supose to be the land of the free. People are fighting against there own people. Where is there hearts?? I always thought that the government cared about his people. What is happening to our free world? Are we going back too a old western movie where they just kill a good person for there land. This is very disturbing. We all as one can’t sit back and watch our wonderful country go down the drain. I never worried about politics but the move I see and read. This is horrible. And I’ll be first in line to vote next time. This has got to be controlled we have to work together. To get our peaceful world and are freedom back. We are crumbling fast. God bless you Mr. Wordes.. Sorry you had to die like that it wasn’t fair. When people get voted in for there promises shouldn’t be a game to you. We are not toys. We are human you promised to protect us from harm. Why not follow tho with your promises. I may not know all the laws but I know enough to know this isn’t right.

Government doesn’t care about people. That’s all a facade to further their agendas. We don’t need the government to protect us, we can protect ourselves. People expecting the government to “protect us” is part of the reason why we continue to fall further into the black hole of big government and corruption.

When the Supreme Court gave developers the right to exercise Eminent Domain to improve (sic) areas of poorer neighborhoods. This set a precedent for all
municipalities to regulate and seize property at their discretion. A person techniquely does not own land or property but a bundle of rights of what can and cannot be done with that land or property. Whatever the codes and restrictions are within a community dictates those rights.

    • Lying Politicians Are Traitors
      August 6, 2013 at 10:18 am

“A person techniquely does not own land or property…”

This is not true. The owner of property by definition does own the property. And yes, the property owner also owns the rights appurtenant to the property.

Though local government does have authority to reasonably regulate private property, it does not have the authority to supersede its powers so as to abuse the rights of the owner. Harassment is one such abuse.

UN Global Initiative (agenda 21) IS real and has been injected into every small town, city in this country via Fed. required PLANNERS…corrupt city councils, officials are taking property for ‘the greater good’ using any/all means at their disposal..and property owners do NOT come out financially WHOLE…beware, this IS real!!!

What we don’t hear, and likely will never hear is the other side of the story. You know, the part where this god-fearing, willfully ignorant man decided it was better to martyr himself on some Glen Beckian altar of fantasy persecution than practice a little humility and citizenship. The days are long over where all a man needed to do was take his trusty musket in hand, march out into the wilderness and rape and pillage his way to a perfect representation of an idyllic, Christian life. Let’s just forget he had every right to foul his “property” however he saw fit. So where’s the rest of the story. Come on now, was he really such a saint, or just another hallucination of a fertile and paranoia-polluted mind.

Apparently there has been a anonymous organization called ‘Cerberus’ that has stepped up to reveal certain city officials as corrupt and has begun to root them out of the local government. At least someone is doing something about this.. We cannot blindly follow supposed leaders who care not for the common man, but for special interests that run so much of international politics. We must join together to be heard!

The regular person can never really own land in the United States as all you do is rent it from the government in the form of property taxes to various taxing entities. And, if you dont pay, they seize your home and land and sell it in a public auction.

I have never liked “Roswell, Ga.”! Upon entering a downtown art show for the first time, won “Best of Show” for a Rober E. Lee painting. The next year, thinking Best of Show would be an automatic “in”, I was jurried “out”! Never got in the show again…political correctness rearing it’s ugly head…..I bet the Judge that gave me the award was never asked to judge again!

RIP Mr.Wordes… I only hope that the SOB’s that put you through this can rest with themselves, knowing that they did this to you on purpose and with apparent malice at heart. I hope they are haunted by their actions as long as they live. THE man in the mirror can be very difficult to look at when he sees a guilty thief standing in front of him.

There is away we can show our disgust for what happened, and that is to all send mail to the city of Roswell Ga. letting them know just how disgusted we all are at the way these so called elected officials and their Police dept. treated one of their own. Its shameful, I really don’t know how they sleep at night with this fella just trying to get by in life.

This story is a little off track, but still smacks of the same “corporate” greed. I live in the Florida Keys. There was a large trailer park, on the edge of the Atlantic, a beautiful plot of land; filled with old, new and travel trailers. Had been there for years. All at once, this land developer brings to attention of the local court the “fire hazards” to these people. He wants the place shut down. The ENTIRE community in that park fought the bullshit for over ten years; finally broke, they threw in the towel. Everyone was displaced. Once the people moved on, the developer went in, bulldozed these trailers. Like they were meaningless children’s toys. Now, there are three story, gated community, condos on the land. Polluting like Hell, as any over populated space does. It’s funny, though. In the next few towns, there are trailer parks, with trailers set just as closely together, and not a single thing has been said to any of them about their fire hazards. Isn’t it strange????? But what I wonder is this. Just how long will it be before another Trailer Park down here falls victim? If it can happen to one, they will just sight all the recent credence this developer made to acquire the land, and they will go down in no time. More “locals” displaced. More housing to Gate Up more land. My husband and I have been down here for about 7 years. Never saw anything like it. Not only are they playing with hard working “Conch Republic” born natives lives, but they are now messing with all the Fish Chartering businesses, that all in the name of “environmental protection”.

Another funny story, speaking of big business getting away with the most horrific things. My husband was out fishing with a guy on the Atlantic Ocean side. He lost the prop on his boat, and wandered into sea grass. He was fined $5,000 for this “atrocity”. The guy had to sell his $20,000 boat, got a whole, whopping $7,00 for it, to pay off the fine. A few weeks down the road, the Gulf Oil Spill happened. Now I ask you, if a guy has to pay $5,000 for bending a little sea grass, what do you think the sum total of the BP Oil Spillage should be?

Talk about bullshit. I agree with everybody on this page. We may all become victims, no, let me rephrase that, we ARE ALL becoming victims to out of control, regulatory government. They are literally taking our homes, and our way of making a living away from us.

And yet we worry about some baseballer using steroids. Or some other nonsensical thing.

I look at my grandkids. It is their generation that will have to fight to take this country back. It will be a bloody civil war. Everyday man against all the Droids a big government can shell them with.

The American Dream? Long gone. Only us old timers around, to remember, and tell the good story.

Sad. The crux of the issue people fail to grasp is that LEGAL TITLE to land is NOT true ownership. Legal title is simply the right to USE the property, and only by permission (i.e. building permits). The founders of America wanted freemen to own land free and clear, including the beneficial interest, but Americans have gone into bondage and lost that freedom a long time ago. You cannot buy property with DEBT notes. This article is a good resource:

The entire city officials and anyone else involved should be up on murder charges and the city and the ones involved pay the family for what they did. Another sad story of tax payer funded bullying. Dont bother buying a home people. It will never fell lie you own it, because by rights you used the federal money to buy it, and it is a lease on federal land, the interest to pay for land the government really owns. Home loans lie, Bahhhh already bahhhh. Sheep bahhh.

Home owners have been paying a form of rent called a federal 99 year lease.

This is one of the reasons that EVERYONE should dump their “deed” and get a land patent on their property. A land patent has been tested and upheld in court. They can’t take your land with a patent, a deed gives ownership to the govt with you being the tenant who pays usage tax to the govt. Want to know WHO really owns the land? Stop paying your property (usage) tax and the real owner will come and take possession.

That happened right here in my home turf. The military decided they wanted to expand the air base and proceeded to take land from the nearby families, including a third generation property owned by an 84 year old veteran farmer. A protest ensued, whereas the local community stood up, and aboriginal groups in the area joined, pitching tents, putting up barricades and trying to stop the injustice occurring. The military cited they had rights to take his farm for government interests, and while the protesters were standing in United fronts, they slipped in through a back road they built, and bulldozed his house in the dark of the night. It was an outrage for the entire community, this man was the 3rd generation to live and work the land, how can we expect to buy food in the store if all the prime farmland is taken?? Meyers Creek farm, Trenton, On look it up. It was a sad sad day for the town. Shame on the military. They don’t always protect and serve, and in this case YES I will stand in front of their guns and not behind them, they were WRONG

While im not saying ISIS is nothing, we have the resources to smash them. And blow up the bits. Why dont we? Because it wouldent be “profitable” to larger corporations. We are all fools. G-d help us all. G-d preserve the soul of Andrew. He didint deserve this. And valencia? I bet the military thought nothing of the crime they commited. They considered it “normal” and your protests “annoying things buy cilvilians”. How dare they destroy the home of a third generation farmer, much less one of their own!

The city of Roswell should be tried for murder, they can say well I didn’t pull the trigger but it is the same, the blood is on your hands. Every town, city, state have to many stupid ordinances, they are made up mostly by people that are not even from the area, they moved in and took over. Citizens of the area are living happy carefree bothering no one until the outlaws come in and start trouble, and look around you it is everywhere, why not treat people with kindness, if they are doing something as simple as having a few chickens on their property so be it leave them alone.

Aliens are demons. It’s easy to find what demons don’t like and then take action to make things right for others. That Roswell crash might not be an accident. There could have been trillions of tiny alien-demons that escaped from the craft that crashed on purpose to give us technology to destroy our planet. Prayer is a huge threat because it’s real. God created things through thought. So can you.

This really sucks. The man obviously was searching for a lawyer to help him with this issue. The judge was wrong for not giving him a continuance. I’ve had a similar situation with a rent house I own. A renter destroyed my home in one week’s time. I called out the police the officers thought it was criminal damages. When I took it before the District Attorney he would not even look at my picture evidence he just claimed it’s a civil matter. I called the police out again to make a claim on all the household furniture that was stolen over $1,500 worth and they did not even make a report said that I was trying to be vindictive and since the criminal damages didn’t work for me I was trying to get them for theft. So now I have a home that’s virtually worth nothing. And about trying to get a lawyer I understand where this man was having trouble finding someone to represent him. Lawyers don’t want to help people they want EASY MONEY!

It’s extremely important that we all see these things for what they are, and recognize the steady march of tyranny approaching. I would strongly suggest a heavy investment in precious metals and paper securities. I recommend lead, brass and toilet paper… maybe two shipping containers of each.

I don’t care if it was said three years ago, I agree with Victor Thane. This post is about a man who was treated extremely poorly, let alone unconstitutionally and took his own life because he couldn’t take it anymore! Can you even imagine? Can you possibly put yourself in his shoes? How could something have pushed him so far as to take his own precious life? My heart goes out to his fiancé… evil people at the helm of our government isn’t just in high places; it’s in our small cities, too… There are all sorts of people that crave power and will do just about anything to feel it. So many people on this post ended up in left field picking grapes. It would be nice to stick to the topic. Especially something like this…

I don’t know how any of you other people feel about the condition of our world, but I believe we are past the point of no return as far as our rights being slowly taken away ( this post is a perfect sample ), martial law and food, medicine, water, utility, communication shortages….
History does and can/will repeat itself. I strongly suggest if you don’t know Jesus Christ, get to know Him. Your eternal soul is at stake…and we just may be here to see Him come back to judge us all. God Bless Andrew’s soul. God Bless everyone ~

Please don’t judge/berate me. You’ll just be wasting your time. Nothing can effect of hurt me when I have Jesus Christ on my side.
