Outdoor Retailer Show Recap – Summer Gear Electronic Highlights

We just got back from the Outdoor Retailer Show (ORSHOW) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The ORSHOW is one of the largest outdoor sports industry trade shows in the world. It brings together some of the top names in the outdoor sports industry and highlights what gear is about to hit the marketplace.

From hiking, camping, and backpacking gear to hunting, rescue and survival equipment, the show highlighted some of the best offerings from over 1,000 outdoor gear companies. Over the next couple of weeks we will be highlighting some of the gear from the show.

Here is a roundup of some of the outdoor electronic gadgets we saw:

Goal Zero’s Solar Chargers

Goalzero Sherpa50 Soalr Charger

Goal Zero was everywhere at the show. Their solar chargers were set up throughout the show and provided attendees with a sneak peak at their newest offerings.

The Sherpa 50 (pictured above) stores 50 watt-hours of power and can keep most tablets going for over 15 hours. The charger, combined with the Nomad 13 solar panel, takes approximately 8 hours of sunlight to reach full capacity.

BioLite Stove

biolite stove charger

Not only does this stove cook your food, but it also converts the heat into electricity that can be used to charge small electronics like mobile phones and LED lights.  The best thing about this backpacking stove is that it doesn’t need expensive fuels. In fact, you can cook your meal with little more than the twigs and pinecones that you find along the trail.

The stove weighs around 33 ounces, which is about the same as most camp stoves, but in this case there is no need to carry fuel. A 20 minute charge provides about 60 minutes worth of talk time on most smartphones.

The Garmin Fēnix

The watch lets you create and follow trail routes, mark up to 1,000 waypoints, store up to 10,000 track points and includes an altimeter, barometer, 3-axis electronic compass and temperature sensor.
