Our ever so helpful government has decided that your wood burning stove is now a danger to the world. In another attempt to outlaw the off grid lifestyle, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the same agency that was recently caught using drones to spy on Americans, is now going after home owners who use Wood Burning Stoves to heat their homes.
Shortly after the re-election of President Obama, the agency announced new radical environmental regulations that threaten to effect people who live off the grid. The EPA’s new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called burn wise to try to sway public opinion.
On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they state that these older stove must be scraped, and cannot be resold.

The local air pollution agency says I can’t sell my old wood stove to help pay for an EPA-certified wood stove. Why is that?
Replacing an older stove with a cleaner-burning stove will not improve air quality if the older stove is reused somewhere else. For this reason, wood stove change out programs usually require older stoves to be destroyed and recycled as scrap metal, or rendered inoperable.
Let’s hope this doesn’t fall under the jurisdiction of the newly created Department of Homeland Security Environmental Justice Units. The next thing you know we might all be getting a knock at the door….. Your Neighbor reported that you might be burning some wood, do you mind if we take a look around?
I live in the Lake Tahoe region, where we use wood burners a lot, but we also have very stringent laws for them as well. Truth be told, the newer wood burning stoves put less crud in the air than turning on your car in the morning. Not necessarily a bad thing. Telling you that you can’t have them at all, even if they’re new, (Like Reno, NV does) is much, much worse.
They’re going to have to ‘outlaw’ fireplaces too.
Okay people don’t freak out everytime someone points the finger at the president you’re showing your lack of civics and how the government works. For the last time the Congress which is controlled by the Republican party are the ones who write and pass legislation or write new laws the only time the president is involved is when a he either signs it into law or be he can veto them, if he vetos them then they go back to the Republican controlled Congress and the have the power to even overide a presidential veto. This is a hoot. The same Tree huggers that support the Communists Obama, Clinton, Gore, and the dozens of others that believe man has doomed the earth to death are now getting shafted by the same people. Imagine living off the grid, in your super “green” cabin located in the middle of millions of acres of timber and an endless supply of fallen trees and branches to supply the firewood to keep you warm and alive in the long winters. This air control rule will extend to Fireplaces, campfires, BBQ grills that use charcoal, and even the accidental home or industrial fires. It’s not a stretch to see the “Air Quality Gestapo” show up in backwoods and remote homesteads and camps, after they were mapped using the NRO spy satellites that can resolve a mouse turd from 800 miles above. This is all part of the Marxist global warming initiative, based on witchcraft and designed to make the industrialized nations pay blood money to the poor and primitive countries. The exceptions ate China and Russia-the world’s biggest polluters that will never succumb to bribery and black-male by the UN and its soothsayers that claim to be scientists. And so, as each day passes, the Communists of the Obama regime add new taxes, and create new laws that harm the little guy and taxpayers. Remember-the buck that goes to pay for these morons to regulate and tax us comes from our hard work taken from our paycheck, or taxes we pay that are imbedded in everything we buy.
The future is a new police force, the Air Quality Gestapo, who will fine you, and even arrest you for selling your old wood stove or BBQ grill. And say by accident your home burns down, and even before the Fire Department arrives the Air Quality Gestapo shows up to fine you for the un-controlled release of particles and gases emitted into the atmosphere. If you smoke a pipe or cigarettes, or spliffs, the Air Quality Gestapo will be there to tax you. These are the same people that claim cows and livestock, rainwater, and the naturally occurring gases are pollutants that must be controlled and those responsible fined. These are the same people that tried to get bullets banned because they contain a lead core. One can imagine flatuance detectors in your home, to monitor that uncontrolled emission for the purposes of taxing you. This will never end, unless we stand firm and tall and say no more. Government that was created for the common good and as representatives of the people have turned into an Omnipotent Regulator and Taxing Authority, a Master spy apparatus and Police State, an Invader of privacy, and enemy of Freedom and Democracy. And we-all of us allowed this to happen, as we were too busy doing other things, and voting without understanding who we voted for. We elected our own executioners.
Before the EPA comes after my woodburning stove, I better see hefty fines on the factors that throw far more pollutents into the air than I do. I had better see the chemical factories shut down for dumping the waste illegally into our ground and oceans. Yeah, EPA, clean up your own house before you come looking at mine. President Obama you make me ashamed of the fact I work my butt off to get you elected and then REElected.
And don’t forget not to collect any rain water or any raw milk from your farm animals or you’ll end up in shackles after being raided by the Fed’s. And beware of how much food and supplies you buy at one time (stockpiling) or you’ll be put on a watch list for hoarding products and goods. At this moment about 90% of the American population can be labeled a “domestic terrorist” by D.H.S. for everyday normal activities. Say one derogatory statement about the government on a forum, facebook, ect. or regularly visit what they consider an anti-American website, you’ll also be put on the list. Other watch groups regularly suppress and prosecute anyone trying to promote the “natural cures” of ailments and diseases. We are under attack from behind the scenes. IT IS WAR AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT OPPOSE THE NEW WORLD ORDER AGENDA AND STAND BEHIND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

If you go to the page where the excerpt above is taken from, you’ll find it in a section referring to participation in a voluntary program and for a Fed rebate. Notice two other things: (1) The question concerns ‘local air pollution’ rules, IF they exist – not fed rules, and (2) old stoves can still be traded in as credit to stove retailers that will allow the trade. Note that the method of rendering stoves ‘inoperable’ (such as, ‘remove the door’) basically allows a potential buyer to re-assemble it and make it operable. These are rules that are purposefully designed to be non-destructive for folks that know what they are doing and exist only to give the impression of reducing the number of older stoves without actually intending to do so.
In any event, the EPA has been regulating wood stoves and has had the certification program in place since 1988, so none of this is very new.
It does my heart good to read the comments of the awake. I wrote about this problem in my book “The Truth About Simple Unhooked Living,” and despite the fact, as Nick points out, that “none of this is very new,” this is the first place I’ve seen the issue discussed! The wood stove laws are not as benign as Nick suggests. Even though the programs are presented as voluntary and currently limited to certain jurisdictions — you will be sorry when the smoke police come around and start writing citations, if you didn’t “voluntarily” trade up into an EPA stove. This is a typical example of the frog being slowly boiled — people lulled into submission by stealth.

Now choosing to isolate themselves from others who they can’t get along with, not able or interested in sharing, who bawk at those who do get along well with others – it is typical bullying behavior used (most likely unconsciously) to cover up low self esteems and irrational paranoia which is made entirely clear by their incessant need to point fingers, get belligerently defensive about the choices they have made (irregardless of whether they are actually for the good of all, or not) and then to blame everyone else while they try to rationalize to themselves that they really know better than anybody else who attempts to disagree.

hello 2013 – time to get with it.

Here is the way around it: (2) cook stoves (an indoor wood burning appliance the design and primary purpose of which is to cook food), (3) antique wood stoves (a wood stove built before 1940 that has an ornate construction and a current market value substantially higher than a common wood stove also manufactured before 1940) and (4) fireplaces.
I own 2 antique parlor stoves and 1 cookstove.
I live in the city in Colorado. I do understand our citizens who live where the only option they have IS to burn.
In the city, we live like 30 feet away from each other and are by no means off grid.
My neighbor has a Phase II EPA stove and if he burns CORRECT you can barely see any smoke or smell anything. The dumb jerk thinks he is saving money and wood and heat by dampering off his fires – what this does is cause tons of unnecessary smoke to billow out of the flue and right into all of our foundation vents, dryer vent, fascia vents and eaves vents so we get to smell the smoke just like we are outside. Not to mention the creosote buildup you can see with your naked eyes. We all have forced gas and a gas fireplace.
So in summary – A Phase II EPA stove is only as good as the operator but if you can get one they do work and also help heat your home more efficiently over the long haul.
I grew up with a wood burning furnace as our ONLY source of heat (Actually just got inside from filling it up), and would love for my house someday to be very self-sustainable, including a wood-burning furnace. I would be SO angry if they banned wood-burning furnaces!

The environmental impact study on wood stoves didn’t include the carbon emissions to produce thousands of miles of oil and gas pipelines, Fracking equipment and chemicals, oil platforms, thousands of vehicles to transport oil and gas, oil and gas transport ships, refineries, etc, The total emissions of all the Wood burning stoves and heaters in the US produce less emissions than the production of One Oil Tanker. Wood is found within 40 miles of the users residence, usually on the same property. It helps provide income for the local community. But the research was skewed to omit 99% of the equipment, steel, vehicles, etc., necessary for oil and gas production and transport.
